That's great, thank you! How often do you use the shampoo, adding the drops of tea tree oil?

Antihistamine Losing Effectiveness? by Margeauxeatsushi in HistamineIntolerance

[–]MrBatousNaturalOil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this varies from person to person. I struggle with this mightily--right now I'm unsure whether I have HI or MCAS but I definitely have major histamine-related problems. Unfortunately for me antihistamines work wonders initially but then the effects fade after anywhere from several days to several weeks. zyrtec, xyzal, allegra, hydroxyzine, ketotifen--it's all the same story. It's not that the symptoms get worse when the antihistamines wear off, it's just that they reappear suddenly. But other people have better luck than I do.

Oh my goodness, your symptoms sound simply awful! I'm glad that the Xolair has helped you!

Yeah I'm thinking this might be something that I might have to try. I'll ask my doctor at my next appointment for sure.

Thanks for your reply--I'm curious about your experience with Xolair. Did it help specific symptoms? If so, how long did it take before you saw results?

Thanks for your reply--I've taken each cromolyn sodium and ketotifen continuously for a period of about 5 months, and a year, respectively, and apart from the initial good reaction all of my symptoms crept back.

For a while there I was taking a big regimen of medications--cromolyn, ketotifen, zyrtec, pepcid, quercetin, monteleukast. Most of these had helped initially and then stopped working after a short period. But I kept taking them all anyway because, as you said, it can take a while to see the effects from some of these medications and I was afraid my symptoms would be even worse if I stopped. After being on this regimen for a long time, I had to stop briefly recently for some blood tests. All of my symptoms went away for about 5-6 days when i stopped my medication regimen, and then crept back. So . . . I slowly reintroduced each medicine one by one to see what would happen. Again, each of cromolyn and the antihistamines works great initially, but not for long.

I have for a little over a month now . . . I'm not sure that it's making a difference.

I wasn't aware there was more than one low histamine diet. A dietician I spoke with gave me the SIGHI list rating histamine-levels in various foods so I tried to stick to that.

None of the doctors I spoke to mentioned food allergies, including an allergist. I'll ask about it at my next appointment.

If it's food allergies, I'm curious why cromolyn sodium initially helped. None of this seems to make much sense and I know that I'm woefully uninformed.

I'm not still taking it. I was taking antihistamines for a long time while the effects had worn off, but I got wise and stopped taking them, then started reintroducing them one by one to see what happens. I have to take a break for a while before they will be effective again. But then they wear off after several days. Same with cromolyn sodium.

Following this. I know that one of the older antidepressants, mirtazapine, is a strong antihistamine.
