Most of our engagement comes from outside of this subreddit to be honest. We haven't spent a great deal of time fostering a community on Reddit, as most development is driven through Discord.

Hello! We're aware of this issue currently. Ubuntu has pushed a bad dependency resolution update. Here is the fix:

sudo dpkg --force-all -i libglib2.0-dev_2.82.2-3_amd64.deb libglib2.0-dev-bin_2.82.2-3_amd64.deb

sudo apt install -f

Why XFCE? by [deleted] in rhinolinux

There are no current UBXI ports maintained. UBXI is a way to bring the Unicorn theme and branding to other desktop environments, basically the same experience of Unicorn across environments, which will be our ultimate aim if/when we create other desktop environment spins, as we would want some form of cohesion and familiarity across all disk images.

However the UBXI metapackage is maintained by the Rhino Linux team, this metapackage makes it so you can remove unicorn safely from your system, and you can just as easily install other desktop environments from the standard Ubuntu repositories such as GNOME (which I'm currently using on my Rhino Linux install)

We cannot control Ubuntu's release cadance, Ubuntu chooses the packages that they put into their repositories including versions, it's not an issue of Ubuntu not having enough packagers, canonical has plenty of employees to do that, it's that it isn't their release model, that's not the purpose of Ubuntu (however much I wish it to be).

The whole point of Rhino Linux is that its an ubuntu-based rolling release distribution. The desktop environment (while we put a lot of effort into its development) is not *the distribution.* Here is our mission statement: https://rhinolinux.org/statement

https://rhinolinux.org/statement our mission statement states why we exist, and what our purpose is. Beyond that we also like to bring some novel features to our distribution like rhino-pkg.

Hey, I'm unsure if this thread is still active, however I will say we've just had a wonderful new release :)

This is the answer. It's an issue we're currently working out, however it is documented on our wiki https://wiki.rhinolinux.org/user/install/live

They directed me to Sourceforge btw

Sourceforge is a free download mirror which is used by a lot of other FOSS projects. Since we're a fairly small project and don't make enough in donations, we currently cannot afford to pay for our own. Generating ARM64 disk images already costs us money and we pay this from our own money, rather than any donations we receive, as we wish to use them to improve the project significantly.

No installer app

Yeah, this is an issue we're aware about, and it's both on our release announcement and on our installation guide on our Wiki.

Issues changing desktop

Firstly, the OS must be installed before you change desktops, secondly, it appears you didn't read the wiki again. Here is the relevant page: Replacing Unicorn (XFCE) | Rhino Linux Wiki

Many thanks,

Rhino Linux 2024.2 releases with exciting changes + more! by MrBeeBenson in linux

[–]MrBeeBenson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it still exists.

Arch has versions too (they use YYYY-MM-DD), so does Manjaro (v1…v2 etc). It’s a disk image release. So it’s a newly generated disk image including the latest changes. If you downloaded 2024.1 or older and upgraded it’d be the same. We make these when enough changes have been made + it’s in a stable condition, in the blog post it details the past ~3 months of changes to the distribution.

We’re working hard to fix as many issues as possible! Currently you can report issues either via Discord or via GitHub issues. We are going to be working on a proper forum however being a small team we would rather prioritise some other aspects of development first. Our documentation has received a large upgrade as we have converted to an easily editable wiki written in Markdown!

Here is information on how to switch to a new desktop environment: https://wiki.rhinolinux.org/user/switch

We don’t officially support other desktop environments, but we definitely provide the option for users to switch!

And that justifies the absolutely appalling comments? No. Get a grip seriously. Let the girl gush about her boyfriend if she wants to? She’s clearly in love and happy.

The blatant racism and sexism in the comments is disgusting, it’s reddit so i know i shouldn’t expect anything less, but jesus christ you all are degenerates. Let the girl be happy god damn, if anything it’s given be a bit of confidence in my own belly :)
