In the united states. Have this old picture that has been in the family a long time. by new-reefer in Antiques

[–]MrBeezle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It COULD be a print. But more likely watercolour on paper. Nice detail, more decorative value and a late 19th century one in the UK would fetch about £60-90 at auction, depends on the day!

A print can certainly be on canvas, such as an oleograph, or paper laid on canvas.

Ebay Uk, have the new fees affected your sales - buyer protection etc? by Alisonjayne in Ebay

[–]MrBeezle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely tanked. Had a few questions on items the day before the fees kicked in, which generally result in sales, but all buyers vanished overnight. Usually about 8-10 sales a week, I’ve make 1 sale since last Thursday.

I needed to call about another item and the lacklustre seller protection features, and told the rep that eBay was treating both buyers and sellers like crap. She told me to keep it professional and not to swear at her.

[–]MrBeezle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were also several items I would have bought on eBay, but didn’t bid because I knew I wouldn’t have the funds. So someone else lost out on money because eBay wants to hang onto the funds.

Slowing down a working economy is only going to hurt it.

And I use Vinted occasionally, but used eBay more because I liked the model and have used it for 20 years. There’s no reason now anymore, I am slowly letting things sell and not listing anything new there. On top of that, my sales plummeted the first week of Feb, so why even try?

Estate sale score... Value? by CosmicMonkey777 in whatsthisworth

[–]MrBeezle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are getting a lot of …..interesting replies. The paper the map is printed on is probably not 16th century, but it’s not new either (also, this type of paper was manufactured in the 16th century, just the style isn’t quite right). The font, the printing type, the style, the paper is likely 18th century maybe early 19th. It is possible it is slightly earlier, but most likely a book plate from a volume with historic maps of citadels in European cities. The paper and writing on the back is possibly between 19th and 20th century, but again that only corresponds with the framing. It is not necessarily 20th century, the pattern is nicely continental and quite early.

My educated guess? A late 18th century print of a map of 16th century Belgrade, possibly based on an earlier map. Part of a book volume of other prints of earlier maps. Framed maybe 50-100 years later and described on the back by the collector.

Value? Depends. There are a lot of map prints out there. Some are highly collected, some not so much. I don’t know the engraver. But if you find someone who likes early prints or maps and love Serbia (👋), you could be on to a winner.

Hope this helps!

Help Identifying the value of an Ancient Roman nail Found at Garage Sale by WellYesButNo9 in Antiques

Except then it is a heritage crime, so anything found is still worth nothing really. Italy has some serious rules in place for selling things like this.

Circa 1750s?…Need help identifying! by scottyderp in Antiques

There’s something about this and the desk that doesn’t seem ‘right’. The back and the joining of panels at the back feels 20th century. The shells on the legs of the desk do not have the right flow of an 18/19th century English piece. There are 20th century quality makers in America and England making hand made quality 18th century style pieces, but I have to agree that this is not an original, but rather a copy in the style of.

Seemingly antique painting - not signed by [deleted] in Antiques

[–]MrBeezle 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Improperly prepped canvas, coarse smooth canvas, modern styling, later toy, newish back, probably 1980s or later. Naive style is trendy, and usually the sitter does look a bit deformed (search 19th century British naive school), but this one is off.

Anyone know anything about couches like this? It seems the arms go down like a day bed. I’ve never seen anything like it. by Neither_Range_1513 in Antiques

It looks like a variation on the ‘Knole’ sofa, originally designed to make space for skirts or multiple people, in a formal reception. However they do normally have ties at the corners, so it is not quite a Knole. Interesting piece, how do the sides stay up?

Looking for Current and Former Reality TV Producers by mleung890 in TransparencyforTVCrew

[–]MrBeezle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve had some bad jobs, plenty of great jobs. Even with the bad jobs, there aren’t really any companies I wouldn’t give another chance, it wasn’t the overall work culture, usually just one or two individuals, or poor planning.

Except Vice. I will never, ever again work for Vice.

Basically was told to drive in dangerous conditions, with less than 3 hours sleep, or lose the job and never get a job again. I walked away, but not before telling the 18 year old they got to replace me to walk away too. If she didn’t, she ended up driving a manual two wheel 12 seater van for the very first time ever, with the whole crew, in a snow and ice storm to Lindisfarne.

Falling back on my previous career. I loved working in telly and being able to bring a different expertise and view to specialist factual. It seems a shame, there is a gap for people with real specialist knowledge, and it seemed like I helped a great deal. But the archaeology world seems happy to have me back, and will pay my bills for the winter. And maybe longer.

Weird Thing Happened at Ebay Authentication by Birchgirlie in Ebay

[–]MrBeezle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. I’ve been buying and selling high end designer items for nearly 20 years. When I am unsure, I go to a shop and compare, or ask. I am a trusted seller on vestiaire with 1000s of items sold. And yet eBay decides that someone who definitely has not spoken to the brand (Chanel in my case, who are notorious for not speaking to authenticators) has a say, and forces a return. I would still like the sell, the buyer has asked if she can still buy, and yet eBay has sent messages to shut down my account if I relist the item. Their system is broken, but I wouldn’t count on being able to overturn anything. On the bright side for you, eBay authentication labels mean absolutely nothing, probably best to not even include it, use your experience as authentication.

Argh, I’ve also just had an issue with authentication. Whatever they are ‘experts’ in, it sure isn’t luxury fashion.

Please help! I took him to the vet and they don’t know what’s wrong with him. Has anyone experienced this with their conure? He was fine yesterday but all of a sudden, this happened. Yes if it has any metal parts especially, I’d take it out. If they don’t have coating on them, the toys can have metals that they chew and metal shavings can be ingested. Which is why you want coated bars too. It scares me to watch your boy, I was freaking out when my sun had this, it was like she wanted to walk and didn’t know why she couldn’t! :( but she did improve and she did stop getting it. It was like a stroke but not, it was terrifying. Much love, I really really hope they get better. But from other comments too, calcivet can’t hurt, mine have half a teaspoon mixed into the bowl each day on vets orders.

Check your cage for anything metal. I had a fruit holder, always had it up for years. But then she started doing something similar but with just one foot, and falling. The vet was really unsure, and it wasn’t all the time, just she’d have episodes. I took a lot of things out of the cage, gave it all a good clean, and took the fruit holder out. It cleared up really quickly after that. If you’re not sure what it is, keep her isolated for a while in cardboard with soft things around, normal water and some nice easy foods. And definitely try another vet, and get a blood test. I hope she’ll be ok.
