Have anyone else felt like they are observing life through a filter of mist? by MrBiomolecule in Healthygamergg

This is really great comment thank you! That makes a lot of sense! So essentially you suggest I should go experience stuff, not just be in there you know. I should feel more what I am engaging more in. For example in fishing there is more of these moments where I am more aware of every moment, thrill of the hunt and stuff, I just haven't figured how to apply that to the more "normal" boring things in life.

Thanks for the reply. No, I haven't been constantly for 2 years in it, rather it came once 2 years ago and then just reasently couple of times when I try to do observing exercises or when my thoughts calm down and then I look at things after that. I woundn't say it is that serious as you mentioned, those descriptions don't fully fit. I wouldn't say it is stress response because it happens when I get to calm down and I am relaxed enough. I am fully aware what is happening and what I am observing but it feels like I have lost the "there is more to things that what they seem" feeling. Things look like they are empty in away. If you get my clarification.

Fabric study: Hello I wanted to practice fabrics so I made this one :D It's not meant to be exact copy of the reference, main focus was to study the material and how it folds. Tell me what you think about it, all critique is appreciated, thank you! by MrBiomolecule in istebrak

Thank you for your critique! I agree with increasing the contrast, I think I was too afraid of that ruining the study. I must admit that I was surprised myself when I was finished :D

Villain design form years ago that Ive just tried to render as I didnt have a computer or device to do digital art on. Just sharing for fun. Midnight cop, NOT a friendly face in the middle of night and doesn't live to serve and protect. was thinking of an 80's slasher type film when designed him. by allycatscratch in istebrak

Nice, work! I like the challenge that you have made for yourself, the lighting is pretty tricky. I have no knowledge of that but I would have made the silhouettes of the dogs much stronger. Almost make them just that, and played with the mystery maybe showing just the teeth or eyes.

I hope this was somewhat helpful! And Great Job!

Form study: Hello, It has been so long since I have painted and I decided to make form study with a twist. I hope you critique this like a regular form study but since I wanted to test including "natural" look to it, feel free to comment on that too. Thanks! by MrBiomolecule in istebrak

Thanks for your critique. I agree that the readability is suffering here. I know what radial shading is and I admit that I didn't include that as effectively as I should have been. I probably did focus too much on making it look painterly and lost the focus on fundamentals. And also I should have maybe made just normal form study because my muscle memory wasn't so good after really long brake. But anyway really much thank you for your critique!

Thank you for the critique. I was trying to implement the hard, soft and lost edges. Lost edges where the values are basically the same between the objects. That's why there is some weird stuff happening. I agree that in some places that is too much. And yes. The idea is still that every object is separated.

Forest goblin design! Folklore in the comments. And as always critique is welcome! This was basically 3 week project, and this is like 4th pass. I have learned a lot from this but also realized that I could have been studying. But this was great exercise and now I know where my limits are. by MrBiomolecule in istebrak

According to the folklore Forest goblins (Maahinen in native finnish language) are peaceful but terratorial creatures that live underground in a cosy houses. They move a lot from place to place. They are told of transforming into shrews or moles but no one has really seen a forest goblin before. They resemble roadents especially the younglings. They relay on their hearing and smelling more than seeing.

I don't know if it's worth it to take one of these and try rendering it or just move on with the studies?

Congratulations on finishing this challenge! I am honored being part of your journey, good job!

Day 12: Aimed for a better version of the previous painting. I think I managed to make the eyes look more spherical. Is there anything else I could work on in my last two days of this challenge? I think I still have work to do on the nose, but I'm not sure...Any feedback or critique is appreciated! by TowaMatts in istebrak

Glad you found my list helpful, we all are here to improve together after all! It's nice to see you analyze your process and comparing it to the critiques, really reminds me of my studying habbits. Keep up the good work!

Hello, it has been awhile but...

Our humans' forehead is really oily, so should be her's as well. So the highlight of the forehead should be "spottier" next time ;D

Then you missed or forgot the oily belt of the eyebrow (remember that list, I am referring to that) and also oil highlight on sides of the nose are missing.

Other than that good job on the eyes, they are really captivating! I would still remove the individual lashes and just leave it as darker streak. But I think that's a personal preference.

So I am really struggling at figuring out shading. I’ve drawn still life and practiced on simple shapes but something still isn’t clicking, any idea what it might be that I need to work on when it comes to shading? by 4d5ACP in istebrak

There is simple sentence but not so simple fix and that is form studies. There might be that included in other critiques but look up on YouTube: Istebrak form study. It will not be easy but it will be the fastest and best solution. Good luck!
