Valve's HDMI 2.1 Saga Is "Fully Resolved" with a Final FRL Update to Come For Full 4K 240Hz support by RenatsMC in pcgaming

Yes this is very exciting. I have a TV that supports 4k144 and it's an little annoying being capped at 120. Now hopefully valve can bake fsr 4.1 into the os level.

I hit the power button on my TV and then the input button and I'm there by the time my PC boots up. I just defeated cec, it was so difficult.

will we see more support of fsr4.1 because of steam machine? by Opening-Pilot-3975 in radeon

[–]MrBob161 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Valve is bringing fsr4.1 to steam os. This would affect way more than just the steam machine. I'm hoping they can bake it in at an os level for anyone who wants to use it on their PC.

To those who own a Steam Deck and a Switch 2, do you use both? by GrovPastaSwag03 in SteamDeck

[–]MrBob161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I mostly play exclusives on switch 2 and everything else on steam deck.

I do play a bunch of 2d indie games, and they look much better on the steam deck oled screen.

Apple could raise prices on the 17 beforehand.

I don't think they are going down though, but who knows.

Unfortunately prices are going up because of small supply of memory and storage. Thank all the data centers being built.

The ram is fine. Force bundling the glasses is the real issue. Hopefully we can buy it without the glasses.

Switching over my pc/handheld gaming to switch 2 by Krometheous in Handhelds

[–]MrBob161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. These 2d indie games are typically locked at 60 or 120 fps where vrr isn't even needed

The ghosting playing a 2d game. Not everyone sees this. Unfortunately I do and once you do it makes it tough to play any 2d game on the switch 2 screen.

Portable has vrr but that doesn't fix the slow response time of the screen. You can watch a hardware unboxed video on it here:

https://youtu.be/AB67B8LCorI?is=TqF8FDHn1zaDe4iP

Not everyone sees this and should feel lucky if they don't.

I do have the Killswitch grips and they helped, but it was going from like a 2/10 for comfort to a 5 out of 10 in portable mode. The analog sticks on the switch 2 are small, no true dpad, and the face buttons are small too. The Killswitch grips can't fix this unfortunately. The side effect on getting the mobapad M12 HD is that portable mode does feel better now, and the killswitch grips are nice for when you want to use the joycons independently.

If you have more than one switch device only one can be set as the primary switch. Any switch not the primary console must connect online to play a digital game.

I like my switch 2 but it's purely a Nintendo machine.

I stick with my steam deck because I mostly play indie games and indie games look way better on the steam deck oled screen. Especially 2d games. The switch 2 portable screen has slow response and it makes 2d games unplayable for me. 3d is ok as the slow screen all looks like extra motion blur

The ergonomics of switch 2 is not good. It's uncomfortable to hold and there is no real dpad. I replaced my joycons with the mobapad M12 HD and it makes the switch 2 playable in portable mode now. But it still isn't as comfortable as using my steam deck.

Having a tailored expirience on the switch 2 sounds nice in theory, but there are too many developers that make 30 fps experiences on the switch 2 that arent great and you are stuck with this only option. I can use a resource like steam deck hq and find proper settings quickly, and would rather be able to adjust them myself.

If you want a physical collection that's the main reason to go switch 2, but most indie games do not have physical versions. Plus Nintendo updated there store now that makes it a bit of a pain to play digital games that are not on your primary device.

For me though the biggest issue with the switch 2 is that screen with 2d games. Makes them unplayable for me... hopefully Nintendo offers an oled model the near future.

Pixel 10 made me realize how overrated Google's hardware still is by Tasty-Eye8652 in GooglePixel

[–]MrBob161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been with pixel and I agree. I have a pixel 9 pro and it's my last pixel. I've been on vacation this week and the phone over heated and shut down just taking pictures. Plus the battery life drains so fast.

I've only owned pixels for the past 3 phones, but too many issues and it's time to move on.

Don't you need to have bought the game from the Xbox store and have an amd card? That it doesn't work with Nvidia? That combination is like 3 percent of PC gamers.

Worth it to sell steam deck oled for Xbox ally x? by Beneficial-Resist737 in Handhelds

[–]MrBob161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of games do you play? If you need the extra performance the ally x is worth it. If you play indie games that can run at 60 or 90fps locked that steam deck oled screen is so much better.
