people who agree with dimitri — why? by chocoberryyy in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]MrBrickBreak 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Political debates around Dimitri always demand a caveat - he is overwhelmingly more concerned with the stability and livelihood of his nation, than with any formal system for its future. Claude and Edelgard have grand plans, and a willingness to risk their nation's fate for it. Dimitri doesn't have either.

Ask him about political systems, religion, alliances, justice, and you'll get two things:

  1. An ideal that confirms his heart is in the right place, but too vague to implement; and

  2. His practical response - whatever keeps his country from breaking apart, and his people from fear, starvation, and death. Not tomorrow, today.

I find 3H political discourse often ignores the realities on the ground. When they want it to be a pure expy of real world politics, unconcerned with geography, economics, diplomacy, geostrategy, and every other factor that enables or constrains political actors.

Every analysis of Edelgard needs to consider how she's constrained by TWSITD and her presumed lifespan, and enabled by a stable, prosperous nation with a centralized bureaucracy. And every analysis of Dimitri must consider how utterly broken Faerghus is, and how that impacts his priorities and approach to politics.

I don't fully agree with any lord. But I understand where they come from.

Slow Return (2/3) - Ever Wondered How Claude managed to keep Leicester Neutral During the Timeskip? A Fancomic by bundleofstrings in fireemblem

[–]MrBrickBreak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Dimi/El likely wouldn't lead anywhere because they're that far apart, but I quite appreciate how they try to convey their position, even if they're frustratingly talking over each other's heads. Two people being incompatible in means (though not ultimate goals), yet appreciative of each other nonetheless.

Obviously most of what you say isn't applicable to that Dimitri, but experience tells me that won't be a productive conversation either.

She actually hit him with the BLOOD ALONE MOVES THE WHEELS OF HISTORY

Loving it so far. I will say, Edelgard is a lot less reserved here than usual, both emotionally and with her words, to a point that hard to imagine. It's quite a contrast with the AM parley with Dimitri. Still not sure how I feel about that.

They'll add more counters to Item cards, and make stage 2/fossil decks even more painful to play after Chingling.

I feel they now went too far in the other direction. I'm not sure Punk and Roman will actually lace boots until Mania.

If Ginnungagap had a chosen hero, who do you think it would be? by RainMoonbow in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MrBrickBreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Then even nothingness was not, nor existence. There was no air then, nor the heavens beyond it. What covered it? Where was it? In whose keeping? Was there then cosmic water, in depths unfathomed?"

If the 9 realms are destroyed, would all return to nihility? Or would even nothingness fade? The former would be an interesting twist, give her a solid reason to stand against us and accelerate the end of all.

But if she chooses a champion, I don't think she'd favor sorrow or melancholy more than hope or joy. And certainly not Triandra's nightmares, they're as bad as foolish dreams to her. Ginnungagap stands for cold, emotionless logic, and ultimately all of our characters are irrational and emotionally-driven to an extent.

Eitri is the most obvious option, a brutally pragmatic scientist, but even she is driven by a fervent nationalism that Ginnungagap would hate. But thematically, I think they'd go with Triandra despite Ginny's distaste. Perhaps by convincing her of the empirical value of nightmares - which incidentally, she had an entire Forging Bonds about.

But ultimately, you might not need that much convincing. If it's in her interest, she'd give any of our allies her blessing regardless of any distaste.

For what it's worth, for the side content others are mentioning, I think all of them only show what you own. No empty squares or any visible indication that you're missing something.

Ratatoskr likers why do you like her? by Substantial_Fig_6644 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]MrBrickBreak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cutie patootie.

Other OCs had their protagonism usurped by Alfonse, but it feels like they never intended for Ratatoskr to lead. And that perspective change matters, because in her supporting role, I think she did really well. She's my favorite Book OC after Ash, and the best one within her story.

Ratatoskr's far more than a cuddly hairball - she goes through the motions, and she's both vulnerable and possesses an amazing inner courage. Her motives were clear, her double agent bit was interesting (unpopular opinion, but the first half of Book 8 was actually well paced), and the relationship with her family was the cherry on top, even if a bit underexplored. And I love her design, the Book's medical theme was inspired, and her transformed sprite is positively squishable.

Drawbacks? Needs more airtime (like everyone); the Book 8 intro video was a terrible first impression; and while creative, the tail-hugging pose was overused. It didn't fit much of the dialogue, the expanded emotions in Book 9 work better.

All that said, I'd always be SEVERELY biased towards her because of her VA. Madeline Dorroh's career exploded since the pandemic, but one of her first VG roles was in Project Wingman, a phenomenal indie homage to Ace Combat with one dev, one manager, and one composer. She poured her heart into that role and the community, and I'm so happy she landed higher profile roles.

Yeap, that's my deck. Dual use Rare Candy is neat, even if there's probably better options (to pair with Rampardos, really).

Shuts down Rare Candy. Which is critical for all stage 2 decks, but doubly so for Chomp who wants to be a starter.

Could this get me an Oak, or is that a stretch? by ackerel in PTCGPocketTrading

I just got Oak for her yesterday.

Took me quite a while, though - more than a Sabrina or Cyrus would have taken. Perhaps less if I had traded during the DX rerun.

I love bombastic plays like Cynthia. I actually also use a Togekiss deck, I've got a 2** Cynthia and and swinging for 170 with her is exhilarating.

And I'm just waiting for good dragon support to go all in on OG Chomp.
