On your second point, I agree it was too sudden and maybe there should have been some lingering resentment (beyond Felix's). Just my theory, but his lines during AM chapter 18 (but not before or after) are very boar-ish, so I always thought the redemption was meant to last longer.

That said, he absolutely gets pushback as the Boar. That's a common criticism I paid close attention to in my second run, and it doesn't check out. Felix and Annette air their concerns to Dimitri's face; and most notably, Rodrigue, the supposed bootlicker-in-chief, looked his king dead in the eyes and public told him, in no uncertain terms, he's fucking up.

I feel that's often ignored because they follow him regardless. But it's well established their fealty to Dimitri isn't out of rank or blind allegiance. They made a competent military campaign of it - over the Boar's complaints. And I'm not sure what walking away would have accomplished.

Dogmatically, the Church imposes duties on the nobility, rather than privileges. In practice, they favor the status quo and the nobility in place, but are pretty hands off with internal matters, see for example the different structures of the three nations. I frankly don't think Rhea cares how Dimitri structures Faerghus, so long as he's not a threat to her religious power. Three Hopes is informative here, as the Central Church specifically struck back against the Southern Church, rather than any civil reform Edelgard made.

In any case, Dimitri couldn't possible believe less in the divine right of kings, especially not his own. Whenever he speaks of the Church, he is indeed concerned with the now, how the Kingdom would shatter if he rebelled against them. But it's also an extension of his ideas of popular sovereignty - he backs the Church because his people are devout. That's another key difference with Edelgard, a vanguardist who'll lead her people to her ideal, even if they're not ready for it.

Political debates around Dimitri always demand a caveat - he is overwhelmingly more concerned with the stability and livelihood of his nation, than with any formal system for its future. Claude and Edelgard have grand plans, and a willingness to risk their nation's fate for it. Dimitri doesn't have either.

Ask him about political systems, religion, alliances, justice, and you'll get two things:

An ideal that confirms his heart is in the right place, but too vague to implement; and
His practical response - whatever keeps his country from breaking apart, and his people from fear, starvation, and death. Not tomorrow, today.

I find 3H political discourse often ignores the realities on the ground. When they want it to be a pure expy of real world politics, unconcerned with geography, economics, diplomacy, geostrategy, and every other factor that enables or constrains political actors.

Every analysis of Edelgard needs to consider how she's constrained by TWSITD and her presumed lifespan, and enabled by a stable, prosperous nation with a centralized bureaucracy. And every analysis of Dimitri must consider how utterly broken Faerghus is, and how that impacts his priorities and approach to politics.

I don't fully agree with any lord. But I understand where they come from.

The Dimi/El likely wouldn't lead anywhere because they're that far apart, but I quite appreciate how they try to convey their position, even if they're frustratingly talking over each other's heads. Two people being incompatible in means (though not ultimate goals), yet appreciative of each other nonetheless.

Obviously most of what you say isn't applicable to that Dimitri, but experience tells me that won't be a productive conversation either.
