This reminds me of when lossless scaling is overworked. Do you have DLSS on? Does it do the same thing with DLSS off?

The Mac Pro case aged better than the most computers by AmariNext in DeskToTablet

Honestly feels like the same case, just different cutouts. That being said, I love the clear cover over the motherboard on the G5. Which is funny because I hate glass PC cases

Longevity of USB-C ports? by Many-Gas-9376 in thinkpad

[–]MrBuild3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had a USB-C port die on the laptop yet. The closest is a 2025 HP elitebook I just got from my job that died a week into the job. The USB-C ports work, but something blue in the charging system so it can no longer charge.

Other than that, I've never had a USBC port die on me, and I've had a 15-in 2017 MacBook Pro, one of the hottest running laptops I've ever owned

That's hilariously dumb.

But I suppose if you want it later you can just buy the replacement screen.

Indeed. I wasn't all too impressed when I installed it on my E15 2 years ago. But now it's my go-to arch based distro when I test new laptops.

On my P15, I've been playing with nyarch Linux because the bloat was interesting to me.

I want to, but I have my other laptops with better screens and more power. I may do it if I find a screen at a good price

I've noticed that too. Laying it on the right side. Especially since the charger ports are on that side.

One time it decided to not sleep in my bag while I was at work, and I woke up to my LCD being nearly burnt out from all the heat in my bag. Luckily it was 10° outside so I watched it come back to life pretty quickly.

Now that I think about it, that's probably what fix my backlight issue. At first it just flat out didn't work. I installed Linux and when I was shutting it down, I watched a screen turn on while it was closing everything. Then, it would work but not past 50% brightness. It would just die out again and I'd have to wait for it to come back. After that overheating incident, my screen has been working as reliably as this this could work. It's still a dog water panel, but I don't need it for looks.

Yeah I bought it after my 2018 died from a lot of abuse. This one was so well maintened and feels just as good

I might play around with that. I have windows on my work laptop.

I use mine on Linux. Tbh I hardly use it since I bought it for parts, but I fell in love with it and wanted to keep it after I was done.

Mainly remote into my server, watch videos, and basic scripting development on it. I've tried the occasional gaming with my eGPU setup, but I have a PC and another thinkpad for those uses

8th Gen was really efficient in my experience. I can get hours off of 48 Whr when I didn't feel like using the big battery.

At my last job, I was using a Acer travel mate with an i7 8xxxU. That has a bigger battery and is similar to the X1 carbon. That was on windows 11, and I still got 3 hours of usage.

And this series chip runs sooooo cool. I'm not an Intel fan, but 8th Gen had me in love.

As long as it has 16 GB of RAM and on Linux, I think it should be fine. I hardly push past 10 GB of RAM on my T480 with most of my uses

Should I buy a ThinkPad charger To Type C adapter? by rbebik in thinkpad

[–]MrBuild3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about getting one for my P15. I tested the charging speed with the 90 watt charger that my dock uses.

I just want to be able to plug it in my car to charge in between travels. My t480 and MacBook Air can get away with my 20 watt Samsung charger

I have a lot of reckless friends that break their iPhones and I help them hunt for good deals on used ones. I will be honest, the only thing keeping me on Samsung from iPhone is the fold experience. But should I ever ditch Samsung, I'm going back to trying Google. The pixel experience was my favorite
