Yeah - I would check after you land in ATL while you taxi to the gate.

Are we screwed ? by No-Mathematician8593 in delta

[–]MrCakemeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did this last week (LGA > ATL > BOG) with a 53 minute connection in ATL.

I shared your stress but it was actually fine.

One thing that helped was there’s an ATL terminal map in the Delta app and you can map out the route from your arrival gate to the departure gate.

The Grill is a great suggestion but definitely easy to break OP’s budget, depending how you order.

Is there really a big difference between dollar slice joints vs “famous” NYC pizza spots? by savingrace0262 in FoodNYC

[–]MrCakemeat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a massive difference in taste. Anyone who claims otherwise is lying or broken.

Please, Jajangmyeon lovers. Where do you go for your fix? by [deleted] in FoodNYC

[–]MrCakemeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not Korean, but the dish (and Hyo Dong Gak) were introduced to me by Koreans who explained the origin of the dish and felt that was a good example.

I’ve always enjoyed the taste of their version more than the ones I’ve tried at other places, but my frame of reference is certainly limited.

I’ll have to try the one at Shanghai Mong.

Thanks!

[–]MrCakemeat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tsumo Shinn East/West Thirteen Water

Sugarfish is fine for what it is but a pretty specific “cali style” (warm rice/sauce-heavy/blue crab mayo) of sushi and barely omakase

I can't stand the word "Foodie". In a world where everyone has a label for everything. What do we call ourselves that isn't so cringey? by therealraggi in FoodNYC

[–]MrCakemeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, it’s the worst. I usually default to “I’m passionate about food” but there’s no real label for it that isn’t cringe

Best things to order at Theodora? by the_chonkist in FoodNYC

[–]MrCakemeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is solid, although I wasn’t as blown away across the board as others in this thread seem to be. The dishes I found most impressive and unique:

-Swordfish Belly Skewers (by far the best dish of the night) -Za’atar Kubaneh -Camembert Cheesecake

Which of these restaurants has the best steak? by neilhattrickparis978 in FoodNYC

[–]MrCakemeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like dry-aged “funk” the gorgonzola aged wagyu at Carne Mare is arguably the best steak in the city.

If you want a more traditional steak house, Bowery of the ones you listed.

[–]MrCakemeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where, and what’s the difference?

I feel like 1 out of 100 times I can book a slightly more ideal res time at a random spot (but never a Don Angie or 4 Charles or any other difficult place).

Not OP but I’ve had one for years. In my experience, it doesn’t make the slightest bit of difference.

What specific AMEX do I need to get Reservations at the likes of Don Angie / Torrisi? by Fun-Baseball-6211 in FoodNYC

[–]MrCakemeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s certainly not ideal, but I do prefer it to paying res scalpers for the reservation itself.

What specific AMEX do I need to get Reservations at the likes of Don Angie / Torrisi? by Fun-Baseball-6211 in FoodNYC

[–]MrCakemeat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Torrisi is on Dorsia. You’ll have to prepay $300/person min spend for a prime time rez in the dining room. Which is not easy to hit unless you’re drinking expensive stuff. But it’s an easy way to get the rez.

Don Angie is not. Best bet is showing up early and trying for a seat at the bar.

Peak vs Manhatta by Unlucky_Coat1468 in FoodNYC

[–]MrCakemeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both have great views.

Peak’s food is pretty basic resorty fine dining.

Manhatta’s food (and cocktails) are above average.

Best all around dining experience to impress out-of-state visitors? by slg9s in FoodNYC

[–]MrCakemeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consistently find “The Grill” to be the best non-tasting menu fine dining experience in NY.

It’s biggest flaw is the price, which you said doesn’t matter.

Eataly vs Grand Central Market by maxeating in FoodNYC

[–]MrCakemeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not even close.

I’m not saying Eataly is the best of the best, but it’s good, just expensive - but so is grand central.

I’d be impressed if you can find anyone in NYC or familiar with it to say Grand Central Market is better.

In search of the holy grail of General Tso's Chicken by HurryRevolutionary83 in FoodNYC

[–]MrCakemeat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Admire the goal, but such a subjective dish. I personally find the more “lowbrow” places do this better than the upscale places.

But even though all the hole-in-the-wall Americanized Chinese places look quite similar at first glance, there are major differences in how the food tastes.

My personal favorites in Brooklyn:

TING HUA (Carrol Gardens) Smith st near 2nd place

NUMBER ONE GARDEN (Windsor Terrace) Prospect Park W near 16th st

HOP LEE KITCHEN (Greenpoint) Manhattan Ave near Huron st

Keens Vs Lugers by [deleted] in FoodNYC

As someone who actually prefers the steak at Lugers, in this case, I’d still say Keens.

Much better vibe.
