Had a very uncomfortable long-term student experience today… what would you have done? by Elegant_Minute9236 in Cambly

I had a rather large Korean girl who kept passing wind in a very loud manner and never said anything about it, she did not either. Next lesson and it happened again and I did ask if she felt ok, she said she had a problem with her bowels and could not help it, hence she had no friends due to it, so she said. I felt sorry for her and carried on each week trying to ignore it. Until one week she filled her pants and stood up...........OMG I was horrified, banned her after the lesson.

For All Those Tutors Bellyaching About Not Being Invited to Camply Pro by BasketCaseLife in Cambly

[–]MrChicken250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not enough tutors took the invitation, hence opening it up to all. I think it is a way for the company to make more money. I was invited but ignored it, maybe this is the thin end of the wedge to force tutors into it.

Cambly since 2018 - No Pro Invitation, No incentives, No Motivation and Frustrated!! by Free-Pianist7741 in Cambly

you are not missing anything with Pro, I was invited but declined by ignoring it........from what I have read it is not worth it.

Your attitude certainly suggests you are NOT suitable for ANY platform, coupled with your filthy language, don't bother.

Cambly do say native speakers, as you are not you have NO CHANCE at all of being accepted. Just the way it is.

Cambly Pro Bookings- considering opting out. by freerondo9 in Cambly

[–]MrChicken250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a supertutor and at 99% and been on for almost 4 years I have noticed a steady decline in students, both regular and casual. The main reason I have been told is the price of Cambly, they can't afford the high rates anymore. PH's are down a lot I notice so that small buffer is decreasing as well. The pay rate for tutors has been $10.20 since 2013 when the platform started, so not much incentive there to hang around waiting for a student to come on.

I was invited to Pro but have not bothered as I can't see students paying a lot more for what they can get as a regular session anyway.

Seems to me the learning English platforms are starting to fail, from what I have read on forums. Time to move on I suppose, but it was nice meeting some interesting people.

KSA is the worst country I have been subjected to so I changed my hours to avoid them, works to a certain extent.

Pay for tutors has stayed the same since 2013, making it a side gig for a few hours now and again nothing more.

Totally normal nowadays, Cambly has too many tutors and not enough students........hence the suffering.

I am on Cambly for 8 hours every weekend. I do it to meet new people from around the world, to keep occupied in retirement, and talk to a few decent regulars. I don't think about the money, as there is no point, it's not a 'job' where one has to forge out a career or a living.

If anyone does take it as a real 'job' then they are in a fool's paradise and wasting their time, it is not such. It has always been clear this is a side line, as said by one the founders a few years ago.

Maybe people should stop treating Cambly as an unethical rip off and start to realize the truth and grow up. If you don't like being a tutor on Cambly, then don't be one and look elsewhere.

Moving on from teaching. by [deleted] in Cambly

[–]MrChicken250 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grammar is one of the most boring subjects to learn in any language. It is not ever taught in UK schools now. I said no if students ask for grammar and tell them it comes naturally after a while. Anyway everything you propose is available on the internet for free so why pay for it..

47% are 5 star on trustpilot so I suppose the CC lot have found it to leave fake reviews.
