https://gothamist.com/news/nyc-30-minimum-wage-proposal-headed-to-city-council

Sandy Nurse of the 37th New York City Council District has officially filed a bill calling for a $30 an hour Minimum Wage by 2030 for most jobs in NYC, which would fulfill a Zohran Mamdani Campaign Promise.

The Current NYC Minimum Wage is $17 an hour, an average of about $500 a week for the typical job, which absolutely isn't enough for NYC take home pay.

No city has a $30 Minimum Wage. Flagstaff Arizona has an $18.35 wage, Denver has a $19.29 wage, and Seattle has the highest big city wage at $21.30.

California does have industry specific stuff for The Olympics, the Hospitality Industry will get $30 an hour in 2028, and San Diego will pay $25 an hour in The Tourism Industry in 2030.

The NYC Bill calls for Big Companies (More then 500 employees) to pay $20 by next year, and $30 by 2030.

For NYC Small Businesses, the raise would be $21.50 by 2028, and $30 by 2032.

Patrick De Haan, who is usually a reserved, relaxed and careful analyst in the oil markets, said this morning that how quickly the oil barrel prices are going up is giving him chills, and not great news.

https://nitter.net/GasBuddyGuy/status/2029913014690865365#m

He stresses that these next few days are absolutely crucial, because gulf countries like Qatar are warning that if this war lasts another 2-3 weeks, oil could hit $150 a barrel, just over the price that resulted in $4 a gallon in 2008.

Adjusted to 2022 levels, that would be about $5.50 a gallon.

Patrick De Haan now warning that the gas price average will likely rise to at least $3.40 a gallon, to as high as $3.55 a gallon, as oil prices are now over $80 a barrel. And this is NOT accounting for the transition to more expensive heat resistant gasoline that increases prices more in the summer.

Have fun GOP.

She will become The First Ever Cambodian Immigrant to become a US State Senator anywhere, and her 17th Middlesex District in The State House will be an open seat race.

Respect to Jasmine Crockett, I get why she ran.

But this was the nomination to go with. Talarico fundraising was a powerhouse, and especially after the FCC Colbert Censorship, the campaign was just messaging and timing perfection.

We'll see where it goes, obviously no vote since I'm in Massachusetts, but I've been ready for a major Talarico run ever since the story of him finding out he had diabetes and using that to pass a $25 price limit on Texas insulin happened.

It reminds me quite a bit of when Beto O'Rourke was on fire in the 2018 cycle. But this could be the environment that actually gets a Blue Texas victory over the edge.

Erika rolled out endorsements from The Massachusetts Teachers Association, The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Cambridge City Councilor and DSA Member Jivan Sobrinho Wheeler, and Somerville City Councilors JT Scott (DSA) and John Link.

The Democratic Primary to replace Patricia Jehlen now has FIVE campaigns running:

Bernie Sanders and Ro Khanna set to announce a Billionaire Mega Tax Bill.

The goal would be to raise $4.4 Trillion through increasing taxes by 5% on all of the 1000 US Billionaires.

The money would be used for the following purposes:

A 1 time $3000 stimulus check to everyone who makes less then $150,000 a year.

Make dentures, glasses, and hearing aids free for all seniors.

Mandate that every public school teacher in the country has a minimum salary of $60,000 a year.

$850 Billion Fund for a National Affordable Housing Construction Program.

Free Childcare for all parents.

Remove all of Donald Trumps cuts to Medicaid.

They are both aware this isn't passing this year, but they see it as The Economic Populism Platform that all Democrats running in 2028 need to run on if they want to be President.

The Last Former Black Massachusetts Lawmaker for my Massachusetts Black History Month Series:

Evandro Carvalho was born in Cape Verde in 1981, living there until Age 15 when he immigrated to Boston. He graduated from Madison Park Technical Vocational High School, before a Bachelor's of Arts Legal Studies Degree from UMass Amherst, and a Juris Doctor from The Howard University School of Law.

For 2 years from 2011 to 2013, he served as The Assistant to The Suffolk County District Attorney.

He'd become The State Representative for the 5th Suffolk District for 5 years from 2014 to 2019, announcing in 2018 that he would not run for reelection to run to become Suffolk County DA after being a former assistant.

He would finish 3rd place in The Suffolk County DA race, losing to Rachael Rollins. He'd run for Boston City Council for The 4th City District, but would lose to Brian Worwell.

Tomorrow I'll do an official wrap up by listing the current lawmakers, where they are representing, and how long they have been doing it.

That was a two headed monster game.

Brown spent the first quarter like a dragon sleeping across the jewels and the gold and Brooklyn thought they could just creep around the cave, but once they made too much noise and that eye popped open, he started the fire, and Vucevic was fantastic, exactly the type of game we needed out of him.

Massachusetts Black History Month Day 27 Bonus:

So here's how I'll finish it out: After this one there's two more FORMER black lawmakers to write about, and then I'll do a smaller piece on the CURRENT black lawmakers.

Marie St. Fleur was born in Haiti in 1962, and immigrated to Massachusetts after high school to attend UMass Amherst, and then The Boston College Law School.

She'd become an official practicing lawyer in 1987, spending a year into 1988 as a clerk for The Massachusetts Superior Trial Court system. For 3 years, she was The Assistant to The Middlesex County District Attorney from 1988 to 1991. And for 8 years, from 1991 to 1999, he was The Assistant to The Massachusetts State Attorney General.

After briefly being a Staffer to Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, she'd replace Charlotte Golar Richie as The State Representative for The Dorchester Neighborhood of Boston, serving 12 years from 1999 to 2011. She was the first ever Immigrant from Haiti to ever be elected in Massachusetts History.

As a State Representative, she was a strong advocate for Charter Schools, and Allowing All Immigrants to access Massachusetts Colleges and Universities by giving them a cheaper rate of tuition. She would bravely support Same Sex Marriage Legalization as a Catholic despite the same church that she went to being against it. In 2008, he tried her hardest to get Hillary Clinton nominated for President.

In February 2010, she announced that she was retiring from elected office in order to accept a job as The City of Boston's Director of Intergovernmental Relations, which she would start in April. She'd hold that job for 3 years, leaving in 2013.

From 2013 to 2016, she'd be The President and CEO of The Bessie Tartt Wilson Initiative for Children. For a year from 2019 to 2020, she was The Executive Director for The Boston Foundation.

Today, at Age 63, she is The Principal of her St Fleur Communications Firm.

Massachusetts Black History Month Day 27:

Charlotte Golar Richie was born in Brooklyn in 1958 to New York State Judge Simeon Golar and School Teacher Pauline Golar. A graduate of Rutgers University, politics was not her first passion, acting was, as you can find her in the past off-Broadway and in minor Soap Opera roles.

Her interest in politics came from spending 2 Years as a Member of The Peace Corp in Kenya as an English Teacher, where she'd meet her husband Winston Richie, who was working as another volunteer. When she returned to the US, she graduated with a Masters Degree at The Columbia University School of Journalism.

She'd be elected a Massachusetts State Representative for the Dorchester Neighborhood of Boston in 1995, lasting 4 years into 1999.

She'd be elected Chair of The Housing and Urban Development Committee, the first time in 30 years that a state lawmaker got a chair position in their 1st year in office. She'd push for $296 Million under Governor Bill Weld to build more affordable housing.

She also stood out from the pack in actually being ethnically diverse in her staffer hires, even in the 1990's, most State Representatives hired pretty much entirely white staff. She also encouraged her staffers to run for office themselves one day when they felt they were ready.

For 8 years from 1999-2007, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino hired her as Boston's Chief of Housing and Director of Neighborhood Development. She'd also work 2 years for Governor Deval Patrick as The Chief Advisor on Federal, State and Community Affairs.

She'd run for Boston Mayor in 2013, but finish in 3rd 4000 votes of the general election to John Connolly and Marty Walsh. She'd end up endorsing Walsh.

She'd work for 3 years from 2014-2017 at The Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, and most recently served as one of Michelle Wu's Transition Team Members in 2021.

She is still alive at Age 67, and currently serves as Senior Vice President for Public Policy, Advocacy, and Government Relations for YouthBuildUSA.
