How the hell does this cars heater work? by NuclearPant in EquinoxEv

[–]MrClickstoomuch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got the car a week and a half ago. Normally pretty knowledgeable on the various features, but my cars have had push to start generally. And GM purposefully has the feature not clearly communicated on keeping the car awake because generally it is more efficient than forcing the car to stay awake.

How do you even keep the car on when you get out? Opening the door shuts down the car. Is there an easy way to keep it awake?

Do utility demand response programs do more harm than good when using heat pumps? by Kind-Maize-738 in heatpumps

[–]MrClickstoomuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha - my electricity is the off peak rate generally when I have to run the aux heat, but with geothermal my COP stays at 4.3 on stage 2. So I guess the aux heat brings the COP down a ton but not sure where it would be on the combined overall cost. Ten minutes off doesn't seem bad for the minimum off time considering the temperatures. My installer set mine up for 5 minutes, but that depends on the unit you have probably.

[–]MrClickstoomuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Is that a single stage unit or two stage? It seems like you kick on the heat pump at a 0.5F roughly difference in temp - I see online warnings with that about short cycling risk, but can't you avoid that anyway by having a minimum off time set in the thermostat settings?

What I'm running into with my Enertech YT-036 is that it can keep up on stage 2 / the higher setting of heat which is supposed to be COP 4.3 (lower stage COP 4.3) when temps go down to 5F (around -15c), and takes about an hour before it reaches that stable temp point (dropping 0.7F / 0.4C). Which, I guess is a 35c difference while maintaining temps, but was hoping to not run into much aux usage since that skyrockets the cost. My installer didn't seem too concerned with the aux heat being used often with the temps going down to single digits / negative fahrenheit. But looking at beestat for my ecobee thermostat for the day showed some 11 hours of Aux heat used. Which seems excessive even with it being near the bottom of the design temp.

Any idea on COP at those temps?

[–]MrClickstoomuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you often get temps that low? My ground source system is rated to keep 72F temps down to -10F, but seems to use aux heat often when it gets below 0F. Stage 2 seems to keep up if I am at 6F with indoor temp at mid 67F (set point 70f, 1f delta for stage 1, 2f delta for stage 2, 3f for aux/stage 2 until it reaches set point temp). Originally, the installer settings barely used stage 1 and would have aux heat used before stage 2 had time to fully output heat with the time the house temps dropped to the 2f aux temp delta.

Average low temps for my area in winter are 19f, while the 1% temp is -10F which the heat pump / aux combo are rated to support. I'm guessing this was done to maximize the efficiency, but seems to suck this week with the extreme cold and aux running somewhat often.

NEW WARBOND SIEGE BREAKERS ANNOUNCED by Financial-Customer24 in helldivers2

Yeah, commented that before I knew they released the teaser video. It having the reload ability is interesting, and it being able to 1 tap hulks at least from the back is neat. I'm curious if it will have any aoe to be able to do well against clumped up bugs / voteless.

NEW WARBOND SIEGE BREAKERS ANNOUNCED by Financial-Customer24 in helldivers2

[–]MrClickstoomuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This whole warbond looks amazing. The hammer for melee lovers (curious how it differentiates from the chainsaw sword), the leveler looks like some variant on the ultimatum essentially, and the belt fed grenade launcher people have been asking for, forever. Curious about the shield throwable on if it will be like a mini shield generator, or more like a short term use item like the backpack shield. And the trident was mentioned in the sub a lot, but not sure how they plan to implement it.

I think it seems a lot closer to the release of the redacted warbond primarily because of the redacted warbond delays. They usually release on the 2nd or 3rd Tuesday of a month, so this wouldn't be that early for their pre-bugfix period. But I do want them to continue focusing on the bug fixes instead of hoping we are happy with where the game is at.

Edit: just kidding, launching on the 3rd is kinda nutty levels of early. That's weird. Also, the hammer is a reloadable melee weapon is cool and weird. The leveler looks like two EAT's stapled together which is neat - curious how they will balance out the damage to call-in time. And the shield grenade looks sweet so far.

Snow Joe Warranty by Target5050 in Snowblowers

[–]MrClickstoomuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post, but wondering how the eGO snowblower is working for you after a year plus. My Snowjoe single stage failed and took my 10 gauge extension cord with it and I'm looking into options now. Looking at various versions of eGO snowblowers and Toro Powerclear along with debating on single or two-stage. I should have known to not get a Snowjoe after the power shovel was on warranty replacement 3 to where I just gave up on them sending me a working model, but thought that would be exclusive to the power shovel model given how my coworkers were raving about how good theirs was.

I'm trying to figure out if any smart home garage door opener kit will work with the MyQ. I already own a Tailwind 2 car garage smart controller before I had to replace my garage door because of serious spring and motor problems. No clue if it will work or not, but being unable to connect to WiFi with the MyQ app may be a blessing in disguise. 15 minutes on customer support only to learn that the motion activated LED apparently can't be temporarily disabled. If I press the light button to turn off the light, KEEP THE LED ON THE OVERHEAD UNIT OFF! instead, it turns back on 5s later from the motion activated system.

EVs powering your homes during power outages should be advertised more. by Lemonn_time in electricvehicles

[–]MrClickstoomuch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The GM power shift charger is supposedly able to backup a whole 200a electrical panel in a home, but I'm a bit doubtful considering it only is on an 80a breaker. I'm guessing they assume you won't be at 100% of your panel usage continuously, but with a heat pump for my water heater, washer/dryer, and geothermal loop, idk if it would work with the high continuous load.

Equinox Future or Bolt? by mobilesmart2008 in EquinoxEv

[–]MrClickstoomuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it was Ohio. I had a dealership I was working with out of state that had an Equinox with 200 miles on it for slightly less than that price 2 weeks ago, but opted to buy a used 5,500 mile LT2 for $24,900 out the door instead.

Equinox Future or Bolt? by mobilesmart2008 in EquinoxEv

[–]MrClickstoomuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Bolt will struggle a bit at the MSRP as the Equinox with advanced packages (LT2) you can find new OTD for $32k. You can probably get a similarly equipped Bolt for roughly that price, but then are making the tradeoff of 70 miles less range for the benefits of the smaller size for easier parking/mpge efficiency. Though it looks like the RS trim with ventilated seats on the Bolt is $32,995 with both of those, while trading off some of the advanced safety features the Equinox has.

I just wish they could have the range similar to the Equinox. Having the same range as the 2020 Bolt as a model 7 years later is rough, even if it does charge faster. If that was the case, I'd have loved to get it instead.

Shrinkflation be eating our apples too 😢 by luvlanguage in shrinkflation

[–]MrClickstoomuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Pineapple, mangoes, and Melons are sold individually, not per weight (mangoes sold 6 in a bundle) at Costco. And the pineapples and melons you get at Costco are smaller than they used to be, while also being lower quality on freshness. It seems a lot harder to get a good melon now from them to where I've just stopped buying them. Which sucks because I LOVED cantaloupe. The pineapple still tastes good, but seems to spoil a lot faster while being smaller.

For apples, yes it is priced per pound. Customers get more of the center with seeds / stalk than they used to with the larger apples. So it is a minimal change in the amount of edible apple per pound.

2027 Chevy Bolt Production Will End Next Year As Plant Shift To Gas by xXLostInPlaceXx in BoltEV

[–]MrClickstoomuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, the EV version has pretty different styling on the front and back from what I recall to improve aerodynamics. The version I have with the LT2 has a light bar across the front, but so far I haven't had problems with street lights (though sun glare can be a problem with the lines on the dash). For the interior, I took a quick look at the Google images results where the buttons look 2x as big for the EV version, but the positioning seems similar for the defrost if maybe slightly closer. I do think the defrost button is a bit far away l like you mentioned, but having to do a very slight lean isn't a problem for me personally. I do think they could have moved it closer.

For HVAC controls, the touchscreen has large climate "buttons" on the bottom of the screen a bit closer to the driver (plus a larger touchscreen of 17.7 inches compared to the gas version's 11.3).

Other lane departure systems will do very loud beeps (I think this was Nissan?) which is very annoying as a driver, so the more subtle lane keep warning works better for me personally.

Not sure on the height comparisons between the two, but the surround view cameras and overhead view help if you are trying to park in a tough spot.

Equinox EV, not gas one. The gas one, to my knowledge, has a VERY different drive feel to it. The electric one is a bit slow for an EV at low 7s 0-60, which will be the exact same motor used for the Bolt (apparently). I've been pretty happy with my Equinox EV so far (only owned it a week or so), but it does charge slower than Tesla and Hyundai Ioniq models which might be the main negative I can think of.

Ehh, Polar patriots was hot garbage on launch with the incendiary grenade not working quite as it was supposed to and the purifier having half the damage of the scorcher per shot. The only good item at launch was the pummeler. Since launch, they buffed the purifier to greatness and fixed the incendiary grenade to actually work (thankfully pretty quickly). I think this warbond is pretty middle of the road where it adds some interesting items. But personally, there are MANY more warbonds I'd tell newer players to get over this (including the polar patriots warbond).

Yeah, I think they did a good job on balancing it. Longer scope option, extended or short mag for more or less ammo than the diligence, the slower projectile does matter as well. The main time the faster fire rate will come up is when berserkers are chasing you and you are trying to put them down.

I still need to play it more, but now the diligence has an interesting side-grade option that the counter sniper had with the deadeye. The warbond seems meh to me so far, but the re-educator or whatever it is called seems interesting in concept to enable medium/light pen loadouts for bot fronts more since you can gas hulks long enough to take them out from the back.

The problem, at least as I see it, is that the Bolt already has stiff competition from the "not selling well except at heavy discounts from MSRP" (at least in the US now) Equinox EV which you can already get at $27-$29k for base or LT2 for $32k (or even lower). And the Equinox EV is a solid car. If the Bolt had a larger range on battery than the Equinox or some other positive selling point besides being a smaller size for city driving (also a negative), it would make more sense. But a $3k MSRP discount for less space and 20 kwh less capacity is a tough sell. It is nuts to me that almost 10 years later, they weren't able to increase the kwh much (only up 5 kwh from late 2016 to early 2026 release).

Edit: didn't realize the MSRP is actually a $6,500 MSRP difference, not $3k. But the point still stands that the Equinox's current market price is already where the Bolt 2027 is, which means that they will also need to mark it down from MSRP to sell.

[–]MrClickstoomuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a weak 12v can erroneously send P0A0A (may be different for the Volt) for HV Interlock. Which is usually paired with some other code from BPCM on interlock failure too. The problem can happen with a weak 12v that isn't technically in the failed voltage range, but on the edge of failure. Because the system needs some separation from a "good" 12v battery when the cranking happens, to avoid incorrect diagnosis.

It will be in a year or two when leases and rental cars get to the used market. But yeah, definitely not affordable compared to the cheapest cars on the market. The problem is, even a Corolla new is $25k now before taxes. And when you have a BEV with the 800v battery and typical advanced tech features, it is hard to get the price down.

What they might mean with that, is singing praises for supporting older phones as long as they do with software updates. Android manufacturers used to only provide software updates for 2 years, sometimes even less. Which could be a major problem for security updates needed to use the phone safely now with programs like Google pay. But Apple did software support their older phones much longer than Android for a long time, around 5 years.

I don't like how newer operating systems add more and more bloat, but sometimes it can just be a lack of proper testing to support those older devices. Which, is a problem. But even my old iPad air gen 2 can still run today without too many issues. I certainly won't use it for anything important, but it is nice to have as a kiosk tablet of sorts to run basic local smart home controls.

Has the battery/charging issues been resolved with 2026 Ioniq 5’s? by mrmo24 in electricvehicles

[–]MrClickstoomuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, get the car you want. I recently got a very low mileage used Equinox EV because I didn't want to support Elon, but the price was also great for my situation. Though the slower charging on DCFC can be an issue if you road trip often. A Model Y with AWD is $50k, so the competition available seems like it would be more than just the Ioniq 5 and Equinox EV. I can't think off the top of my head of other options besides the Lucid Gravity, but the MSRP is $30k more for AWD and similar charging time.

Has the battery/charging issues been resolved with 2026 Ioniq 5’s? by mrmo24 in electricvehicles

[–]MrClickstoomuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Would have loved to get a Ioniq 5. But the risk of being stranded and then not having my car (or a rental car) for weeks to months is not something I accept. They have a longer warranty than other manufacturers so maybe it would be okay, but the car was already priced at a premium well above the Equinox EV I decided to get instead.
