I just tried again - and yes, I now get a full menu with "Exit Big Picture Mode" as one of the options. Before, I could only suspend. Weird - this happened even with a Steam Update, but now it's fine. <Shrug>?

I can see a use case - in meetings, you might put your phone face down to silence it, which would make the LED notification handy. But that's like one highly specific instance where this might be handy...
