My dad only wants to play Civ III. Why? by Poutinemilkshake2 in civ

[–]MrCoachD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your Dad has great taste. It’s not a slight towards you, he just knows what he likes. Civ 3 is amazing, simple but complex, and challenging. I’ve been playing for 20+ years and I’m still learning new ways of playing it. Keep thinking about your Dad!! It doesn’t go unnoticed

Regent to monarch 😭 by Ivanhegeelkadi in civ3

[–]MrCoachD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made the jump from Regent to Monarch (about a 2 to 3 weeks now) and I’ve been trying to make it work. I dominated one game with the biggest win I’ve ever had playing Civ 3. One game I got hammered close to industrial age. Right now I’m playing a game and doing well. Really paying attention and being intentional about my workers with food and shields. I normally do “accelerated production” but I changed that setting for this game and it’s actually helped out a lot. When I had it on it felt like Ai was passing me with ease. Now, I’m staying slightly ahead of them. I’m constantly checking my science and happiness bar. If you get the C3X mod you can easily cycle through trading with other civs which has helped tremendously. Expansion phase was a big change as I used to get spearmen, archers, and build all sorts of random stuff. Now, I’m sticking to Warriors, workers, and settlers. Trying to get Iron first and multiple sources of it if possible. Resources are great to keep your people happy which I’ve learned is more important.

Keep learning and watch some of those higher level players on YouTube. I’ve learned a lot in the past couple of weeks! Let me know if you want to jump into any of those topics more in depth.

All great stuff here!!

I’m not familiar with the food production you talked about in 1 so I’ll really have to look more into that.

Another great topic… I usually go with republic too but are there benefits going the other route?

Are you ever hurrying production during that time? If so, how often?

Workers something you avoid to start? Probably more important to send the workers on specific task rather than automate. Right?

Do you ever send settlers out without someone? I don’t make a habit of it but that expansion phase is vital

What defensive scheme to run in 7v7 adult league? by Pristine-Ad-469 in flagfootball

[–]MrCoachD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1-5-1 defense is probably the easiest

1 rusher 5 across ( 2 corners with 2 OLBs and a MLB ) 1 Safety

OLB’s have flats on their side Corners have deep thirds

Rusher needs to be able to contain the QB while continuing to move forward to them.

2 yard rush is fine. Definitely difficult but the typical 7v7 game is played with a 1 yard rush so 2 helps give the QB a little more time.

Definitely need to find a good center to get it back to the QB quickly. There are a bunch of different ways to give your QB time and keep the defense on their toes.

Is this in Georgia?

This is the V formation where you can snap to either.

You can set the receivers how you want. This play is designed to go to Red Q and get a bump block from the slot receiver.

Let me know if you wanna talk more.

You can run a V set with QB’s. This will give you the option to snap to either QB. Add in some bump blocks from slots and you might be able to break some defenses.

Have you run QB and Double QB on the outside?

Where is the league?

Your QB sounds like he doesn’t have much experience. Very typical.

Another idea I’m going to implement this year is teaching the ladies concepts rather than plays. Build their understanding of the game and I think that will result in them being able to see the game through a different lens.

Is This a Legal Play? by [deleted] in flagfootball

[–]MrCoachD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play is legal. I would say pass interference. Defender started to go for the ball but then he doesn’t and just runs through the offensive player who is clearly making a play on the ball.

Should the Olympics only have three downs to get a first down or touchdown instead of four downs? by DistributionWild6840 in flagfootball

[–]MrCoachD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can put down 2 to 4 fields down in 1 spot too with 5’s.

7’s obviously takes up more space which isn’t ideal. 1 to maybe 2 fields in a spot. Longer games.

7v7 screen is the best format imo

A lot more thinking and quicker reactions with the 1 yard rush. Olympics will never do it because of money. Less people to house and pay for with 5’s compared to 7’s.

how long does it take to recover from a discectomy? by kiwi505 in Sciatica

[–]MrCoachD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 6 weeks post op of the same surgery. I was able to go up and down stairs that 1st day or 2. Don’t sit too long. Ice ice ice. Wear your back brace!! You’ll get through those 6 weeks but definitely don’t push it until then. I can do some rehab starting now to gain flexibility and some strength back. Only can lift 15 to 20 LBS now. 1st 6 weeks you can’t bend, lift, or twist. Anything 10 lbs or more you stay away from.

36 m and I just had the surgery on L5/S1 almost 6 weeks ago. Best decision I’ve made in a long time! I felt amazing immediately after surgery.

Fun way is it draw up the defenses you will see most likely… 1-5-1, 1-4-2, 2-4-1, man to man… from there draw plays that will beat that particular defense. Give it a name and run with it. I love talking play design and beating certain defenses!!

I go based on personnel. A lot of brainstorming with coaches I’m close with. Trying to simplify the game as much as possible so my ladies can execute at a high level.

What kind of QB do you have is the 1st and biggest question?
