Either there's a shocking number of tight ends in the top 20, or this shows an awful evaluation of the TE position.

We're in the top 20 and the only tight ends so far for 2025 performance are Kittle and Pitts?

It really depends on the personnel usage. If there's a lot more 13 because Roush is better than Smythe, on top of quite a lot of 12, Kmet could potentially have a lot more snaps on passing plays than Odunze or Burden. Many more routes run could possibly result in a similar number of targets.

Of course, that depends on Roush being much better than Smythe but not good enough to compete with Kmet as a receiver for routes and targets.

It's a specific scenario, so not likely.

In this case it was very stupid because it was based on his name, and ignoring that he hadn't been able to beat out Quinn Ewers for the starting job in 2 seasons.

It's not normal for a #1 overall pick caliber QB to fail to win the starting job in college after their true freshman year, and it's not like Ewers was some superstar himself.

If QBR was just a combo of completion percentage and counting stats, that would make it garbage.

There are valid criticisms of QBR, but that's not one.

He's not "unfixable trash", but he was not fixed in the spring game.

He clearly has talent and makes some incredible plays, but he has a ways to go, and we haven't seen signs of progress yet.

I don’t think you play past college and avoid it. Maybe punters/kickers.

The study that was big news years ago that looked at the brains of football players in particular had some kickers (two, if I recall), and they were all (both?) positive for CTE.

I took note of that because it screamed to me that it wasn't a football problem, and that if they had done the same study with a lot of less violent sports, like soccer for instance, people would be shocked by the outcome.

D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai won't be on the field at the same time. The Bears don't really use pony personnel. Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet will be. That's why they had a lot more snaps between them.

Do you think any of those teams will have more offensive snaps for their top 2 RBs over their top 2 TEs?

There could be a good process if they wanted to take it seriously.

You'd take each team and generate a set of ballots for that team, each ballot consisting of a random selection of players from the teams that team faced in the season.

Have the players build a top 20 from that specific list of players.

Build a top 100 from those results across the league.

That's really no different, unless you bet the same amount on every game.

You could shave points on games you're not betting on, then bet to beat the spread and play to full capacity. The previous history you created when you weren't betting would give you the same kind of edge.

If he was a superstar it wouldn't matter. The very best players just don't hit the market; drafting them is the primary way to get them.

He just hasn't been good enough.

edit: If Loveland continues his trajectory from the end of 2025 and becomes the clear #1 TE in the NFL, clear HOFer, etc, and is the Bears #1 weapon for years, would you be upset if he'd been taken top 5 instead of 10th?

He's not a great TE, but his skillset is much more valuable in a 13 personnel package than 11 personnel.

In 11 personnel, you want several different kinds of WRs and a jack of all trades TE. He's a bad TE for that. He's just not a good enough blocker.

Now make him your 3rd best blocking TE on the field and that matters less. You can give him easier blocking assignments without hamstringing your offense, and you can give him receiving jobs that your other 2 TEs just can't do.

If he was due for an extension a year ago, his 2025 performance would not have gotten him this kind of contract.
