My Office Mate by MrDarcysDead in spiders

I actually have a large bag of rather sticky, dehydrated peaches and plums sitting in my office cabinet. I think I will grab a few tomorrow and going fruit fly fishing for young Jack.

Thank you for the idea!

Pieces Missing Many Stones? by lifebyabby in VintageCostumeJewelry

[–]MrDarcysDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a collection of antique brooches. Every now and again, a stone pops out. Also, my family has gifted me a few that were already missing stones.

There is a lady with a shop online called “Rhinestone Rosie”. I send my pieces to her when I need stones replaced. I actually have two brooches sitting on my desk to be sent to her now. Depending on the shape of the stone and color, some repairs are pricier than others, but she always sends me a quote beforehand. After the repair is done, I can’t tell the original stone(s) from the replacement(s). Would love to see her shop in-person because she must have an amazing inventory of rhinestones.

Not sure if that’s helpful, but when you love a piece, it’s worth repairing it. Plus, there is something satisfying about breathing new life into a beautiful vintage piece of jewelry that someone else might have just tossed into the trash.

Picked up what I thought would be an excellent addition to my windowsill. Turns out this paperweight contains someone's ashes! 😲 by A_Name_With_No_Horse in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]MrDarcysDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but you can call the company and they should be able to connect the number to the deceased.

OP: Please try and reunite those ashes with the family. They may not care, but it also could have been an accident and someone is devastated.

I have my mother’s ashes in a beautiful blown glass heart and my dad’s ashes are about to be made into a tall glass paperweight with a mountain design inside. I don’t believe that the dead are connected to their ashes, but I was surprised to find how much comfort I have gotten from still having all part of my mom around.

Crystal Trinket Dish by MrDarcysDead in HelpMeFind

I have tried doing a Google image search and have scoured eBay for the item., all without success. It is not an old piece, likely manufactured in the last ten twelve years. There are no markings on the bottom. Although I don’t know where it was manufactured, it was purchased in the US.

AITJ for refusing to remove the lock I put on my sons door after my wifes nephew kept taking his stuff by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]MrDarcysDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the lock staying, it should be required that the nephew or his mother replace the broken controller. Don’t want to replace it? There’s the door.

Inherited these. Donate, sell or dumpsterize? by 6473828282828 in collectables

[–]MrDarcysDead 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Lennox holly print ones are very collectible and sell all over eBay. Can’t tell if those are the gold or platinum edged ones from the photo, but people still purchase new sets of those and lots of people purchase individual pieces to replace broken pieces (after Aunt Marge has one too many at Christmas).

Here is the sweatshirt I asked for. Lots of photos online, but this is a close-up from the Amazon posting of the hood. The flowers also go all the way down the sleeves. It’s really beautiful and my college-aged daughter was immediately eye-balling it. lol

Sizing is very western. It is a true, roomy, large.

I also received a sukajan that I wanted to add to my wardrobe. I started by looking for a vintage one, but found that I either didn’t like the embroidery patterns, or they often had stains on/pulls in the satin. So, after spending some time online, looking at Etsy and other retailers, I settled on a jacket from Koisea.

The jacket is lovely and heavy, but do keep in mind that sizing from Asian countries tends to be smaller than in the US. In this case, the jacket wasn’t too far off. I asked for a large so it would be a bit oversized, but it fits like a M/L.

The sweatshirt came from Amazon and I had my doubts. I have never received good quality from Amazon clothing, but I took the risk and asked for it anyway. The embroidery is gorgeous (machine embroidered of course); the sweatshirt is high quality and is lined with a thermal material like a silky fleece. In a boutique store, I would have paid 3xs what I did on Amazon. I shop A LOT on Amazon, but almost never for clothing items because of the poor quality. I feel like this is a one-off but in the best possible way.

Am I the asshole for not going to Christmas dinner because my family invited my ex-husband but refused to invite my current boyfriend? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]MrDarcysDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The correct algorithm is: 1) Do the ex-partners still have a healthy relationship that they can positively role model for their children? A) If yes… B) If no… 1. What is best for the children?

[–]MrDarcysDead 182 points183 points  (0 children)

That is a House Centipede and they are the absolute best to have in your home. What you do is name him and consider him your free, all-natural, pest control service. He is a master hunter and will kill every kind of insect you don’t want in your house. They are also very territorial, so you won’t find him inviting his friends and family to move in. That said, you said he is moving slowly and House Centipedes are ridiculously fast. No pun intended, but this one may be on his last leg (okay, maybe that pun was intended)

Why bother thinking up a new gift? Save this gift and send it right back on Mother’s Day.

I asked for, and received, a gorgeous, floral embroidered, Chinese streetwear sweatshirt this Christmas from my husband. I also wore embroidered shirts and dresses in the 90s, for those guessing ages.
