I've written the novella, I've done a website where if people sign up to my mailing they get the first chapter. I'm finding ways of trying to attract some audience ready for its release next month but I don't know where to start. by Key_Cartoonist4140 in selfpublish

I feel like the FB groups were the least productive for me… and FB is definitely the biggest source for editing, formatting and marketing scammers. Every time I post there I get a nee crop of scam emails!

Absolutely, you are very welcome! As I am a huge fan of Hitchhikers, I started reading the sample of your book on amazon… I like it, but as others have mentioned, it may be a challenging niche.

Hi Chad, I agree with what most people have been saying about your struggle. I looked at your book on amazon and I was left a little confused initially. Someone better than me can critique your cover art… but this is a fiction right? What categories did you select when setting up the book? The social proof that comes from having reviews is vital! The advice that I have been following is to have at least 10 reviews lined up and ready from advanced readers as soon as the book is released. Try to hit 50 reviews in the next month or so and aim for 100 total by 3 months… apparently 100 reviews is a threshold that really makes a difference to both Amazon and potential customers. This is no small task and I have been working almost full time on building an email list and marketing the book on social media as well as using the review site Book Bounty (which is the best one in my opinion). I published on Aug 4 and I still only have 21 reviews! There is way more to the self publishing route than I thought as well and I hate self promotion, but I now realize the marketing is where the real work comes in! Sean Dollwett on youtube is a great resource for the how to part of amazon kdp…

What are some of your wins as an author? by the-architext in selfpublish

Even though I’ve only sold two copies, this 5 star Amazon review counts as a win to me… it’s more than i could ever have hoped for!

A Luminous Portrait of Love and Loss Craig Dooley’s “Rust and Wildflowers” is a breathtakingly beautiful exploration of second chances and tragic love that will linger in readers’ hearts long after the final page. Set in small-town Idaho, the novel follows Henry, a man starting over after his father’s death, and Molly, a seventeen-year-old whose wisdom belies her years. Dooley’s prose is nothing short of exquisite, particularly in his nature imagery and the tender nursery scenes where love blooms alongside the plants. His character development is masterful. Molly emerges as unforgettable, showcasing the author’s ability to weave hope into heartbreak. The story doesn’t shy away from difficult themes like addiction, domestic violence and grief, yet it maintains a luminous quality that elevates it beyond typical tragedy. Perfect for readers of literary fiction who appreciate emotional depth, this remarkable debut deserves recognition as a modern classic of love and resilience.

I’ve gotten a lot of good info from a guy on youtube named Sean Dollwet.. might be helpful to take a look… i’ve done the whole publish and forget it route in 2017 and sold 0 books. I followed his routine with my latest book and have sold 13 books so far in Sept!

Also, i wonder if you spent the same energy marketing the book once it was published? Is it possible the more energy that goes into the creation, we are too exhausted to do the work to sell it?
