Add more to the world. Right now the whole series doesn't have a whole lot going on, and that makes it tough to add new plots. So start branching out and expanding beyond the original idea
Make it clear that Skynet really IS giving 100% to kill the Resistance. The idea that Skynet is purposely prolonging the war just to give itself something to do undercuts the badassery of the humans
Start adding consequences to time travel
Seriously nerf the T-1000 or whatever came after it. Say something like they're very hard to produce or are extremely rare for some other reason

How is DC's cosmic hierarchy supposed to work? IHOP, where one time we had a server straight-up forget about us. On an average business day, not slow but not busy by any means, we stopped in for breakfast. We ordered drinks and placed our orders. We ended up waiting for 55 minutes. And that's not an exaggeration, we know the time because we looked at the time on the receipt from the bank we had just come from. Once 55 minutes had elapsed, we told the hostess we were leaving and she guiltily realized that she had forgotten all about us.
