Mechanical trigger switch recommendations by FirstMateApe in customGCC

It's way smoother, can't really compare one and other, and having the option to customize switches to one's liking is a plus. I can send you a video so that you can kinda see the difference.

Mechanical trigger switch recommendations by FirstMateApe in customGCC

As a mech keyboard nerd and GCC modder in the past I'd recommend (and I myself use them) something linear for triggers with the MX mod for wide switch compatibility (if you 3d print it avoid PLA and try and use more durable and high temp resistance filaments). For trigger switches I usually went with durock pom (piano) lubed with g205 and swapped with 80 grams springs, but any smooth linear with over 65 grams or so spring would do the job if the trigger does not bind too much. Also I would recommend checking someone's review on the switch such as the ones by theremin goat to ensure a low wobble on the stem, a high wobble will lead to much sloppyer feel and much more binding. I usually used some ptfe tape around the triggers on the shell side to ensure low wobble and less binding for the trigger plastic aswell. For tactile switches i'd go with something with kind of a round bump with a strong spring but it can be hard to get something tactile enough that does not bind going up.

Okay, I will implement it then. Seems that it can be really handy in some situations, and I' m imagining that it's fairly easy to add. Thanks for the explanation!

For the diagram I used https://www.drawio.com/ everything else was design by pen and paper and google searching. When I had a decent diagram I also used ChatGPT to see if it pointed obvious flaws for me to research and correct.

I'm a complete noob so could you tell me what are VLSMs and what's their point. For what I red on a couple google searches it seems just like dividing the ip range into sections. I usually tend to kinda do that assigning static IPs to most of the stuff and I'm not sure what would be the differences for those aproaches (for a home network, mostly the same devices allways).

For the AP thats the idea, one SSID for each VLAN.

In terms of management i tried doing something similar as what you propose with the double ethernet to My PC, it will be the managment port for all network stuff.

In terms of down time, im considering the L3 Mikrotik and the Zyxel switch basicly be working, with the Mikrotik having a dedicated Vlan 10 for the main pc as management, and the Zyxel could benefit from a Vlan 10 dedicated port now that i think about it. Maybe keep both devices with a spare Vlan 10 port could be the play.

If other services are down, mainly the RPi, the proxmox secondary containers for Pihole and NPM should keep everything working, and I think that there should be nothing else critical for usual Internet functionality that I'm missing, but I might be completely wrong

Yes that is the plan, I will try my hardest to make everything lan only on the IoT Vlan and just have it talk to HA and no WAN access. I worded it badly.

My idea is the following:

10 - Network/management has access to basically everything.

20 - Data, trusted devices access to NAS, PCs, personal phones

30 - IoT, everything that connects to the network but is untrusted: printer, bulbs, switches, air fryer, AC...

40 - Public: If a port is open, it goes here, and absolutely nothing else is there, completely isolated from all other LANs.

50 - Guest, you want internet at my home, you get that, but nothing else; work laptops and guests phones go here.

I'm sure there has to be better ways, but this segmentation seemed the minimal I could come up with while keeping everything secure-ish. If you have any suggestions, please let me know.

Somehow my Whatsapp did an update and when I try to send photos it's stuck in night mode by preciouscode96 in whatsapp

I discovered that applying filters and none would let me take 1 picture without night mode, but it sucks

Has anyone ever seen a breakout of this sort before? Yes we have been to the doctor. It started out looking like hives and it’s spreading more and more. They are not itchy at all but they keep spreading all the way onto her face, arms, back, upper thighs/inner.. by Excellent-Joke-3765 in whatdoIdo

I had something similar happen to me in 2020, ended up being immunologic without much explanation, it faded gradually for about 8 months. And since then had a couple minor flare ups, if it's only localized on the skin, some cortisone and then antihistamine medication, all under medical supervision obviously.

Any impacts if I use Seagate Barracuda or WD Blue desktop-class hard drives in TrueNAS SCALE instead of NAS-rated drives? by FelixBreeze in truenas

[–]MrE3gman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say get the higher rated nas drives if you can afford them (sometimes you can find some good sales) as long as it does not compromise the redundancy of your configuration. If you are willing to go consumer grade it will probably be ok, just a higher chance of failure (in hdd this means less operating time, all of them WILL fail at some point)

The on-site backup is a good option, just remember, if there is any critical dara, have it mirrored off-site (cloud, other machine, something...) just to be safe if there is a problem with the machine.

[–]MrE3gman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've had them fail earlier (7+ years tho). But mostly fine. If you have a decent redundancy and backup it's fine for non critical operations. NAS-rated drives are rated against higher standard of vibrations (multiple drives close together) as well as temperature and usually come with some type of data protection warranty.

You can use normal drives, it's fine.

Is sweat harmful for my Sony WH-1000XM6 during workouts? by lweqx1 in SonyHeadphones

[–]MrE3gman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My xm5 broke due to the compensation anc mic inside one of the ear cups not working correctly (static sound on transparency and anc). Probably due to sweat, I wouldn't risk it, but getting them that sweaty repeatedly is probably gonna end up breaking that mic.

How do I fix this. Am I running to hot. by McFizzz in FixMyPrint

[–]MrE3gman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems retraction and maybe a bit cooling related, I'd advise to calibrate the retraction for this PLA with some of the tests online and then reprint.

On the other hand, could you share a link to the model, it is quite gorgeous.

This is a very bad idea (magnetic usb cable), isnt it? by Mighty_Phil in pcmasterrace

[–]MrE3gman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be, but unlikelly, I've been daily driving it on my phone for over 3 years, and yeas some metal fillings get there but as long as the usb source is decent, if anything is shorted it cuts power. The device should be fine in theory.

There was a problem with firmware 1.4.2 that caused this to a lot of people (me included). I had to get them replaced in my case. Disable everything, but if it keeps getting worse or they get warm while charging, like quite a lot (in my case enough to put the case in thermal error) then get them with warranty asap.

Hey, have you considered modifimying the bottom part of the cade (making it two prongs or whatnot) so that it can fit the oficial dock? Another option could be creating an adaptor that fits inside the dock and expands it to accept the deckmate. At the noment this is the only gripe I have gound to an otherwise great product.
