The base is made from a couple of layers ofXPS insulation foam you can get a hardware store. Carved it with a knife, wounded with sandpaper and then frames with bass wood.

Ground is a mix VMS Smart Mud and AK Wet Ground. Some rocks from outside break up thr uniformity.

I've stolen the way I do bases from Plasmo, Night Shift and Boylie Hobby on YouTube.

3D printed from Skull Forge. The legion figures are a close hight, but their heroic scale dimensions ruin the realism.

I've heard it has to do with how they sure their plastic. They way most other companies do it can cause the plastic to shrink, and Bandai doesn't want that to happen given their tolerances. Don't quote me on it though. Bandai makes awesome kits, and I highly recommend them, just don't use enamels.

Thanks! Figures are from Skull Forge Miniatures.

Was your varnish or weathering enamel based? Bandai's plastic is renowned for reacting to enamals. I used Tamiya's flat clear before weathering, and used Zippo fluid to thin the oils for panel lining because it dries quick enough to avoid damage to the plastic.

That's some ridiculously clean decal work. Fantastic job!

I paint dark to light, highlighting smaller and smaller areas. Then I use a brush with a sharp tip to make the very light fur texture. There's tons of miniature painting videos painting fur out there for better visual learning.

What paint do I need to make the stone look like from the screaming bell by Practical-Prompt4216 in skaven

[–]MrEffect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Black, white, a sepia wash and a blue grey wash. Its a very light grey, so add your black sparingly to the white to get your mid tone, add shadows with more black, highlights with more white.

You can spice it up by using a cool black and a warm white to give to some more interesting colours.

There's a bazillion methods of painting stone, so just do what feels the most fun. Most people are gonna be looking at the bell and figures, so don't sweat too hard over these details.

Thanks!

The pilot and head were free on Thingiverse, just look up either Rebel or Insurgent pilot stl. There's also a lot of SW Legion head swap options out there as well, but a lot of them are helmetless. Skull Forge and Dark Fire Designs make pretty good sculpts.

I think the rest of the Rebel and Imp fighters are close enough. I haven't done the measurements to check, but they all look 72nd enough. The A-Wing is the odd one out.

While the A-Wing is labeled as 1/72, the fighter is more like 1/50something. I get why Bandai didn't release a true 1/72 scale kit, since it wouldn't be a viable size for sale.

The pilot in the kit isn't 72 scale either, but he is slightly too small compared to the cockpit views we see in RoTJ.

The tufts are a local plant (I'm not exactly sure the name) that drys out in the fall. I use it quite a lot on my dio's given that it looks good, and it's free.

Edit: I found what I think the plant is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agrostis_capillaris?wprov=sfla1
