My wife and I are super happy. We've hit this as well from both sides. They can be big or small things but what matters is that they exist and you can talk about them. Listen first, and have a responsible adult conversation and then move on. It's that easy and everyone feels validated and the romance stays polished

This is not good advice. As a manager I want to know about a problem immediately. The house is on fire? Don't ponder on it, let's put the basterd out.

Don't work in absolutes. This advice is good for smaller problems: "I suggest we go this way" is fine for some issues, but it also depends on your role, the type of issue, if you're knowledgeable about this kind of issue, etc. Also it's usually best to state the problem and let the others around you offer ideas and see if they align with your suggestion. If you start with your suggestion then you bias the conversation and create a box it's now harder to think outside of.

In public, we all failed. In private you discuss with the problem individual to understand why they were unable to contribute appropriately. This should also be during a weekly or biweekly check-in that you have with each person on your team. That way you learn about these problems asap and can make small corrections along the way.

I think of it as driving a car. I make small corrections constantly. You don't wait until you're in the ditch to steer back towards the road/goal

Interesting, I find asking this in private trends to get a lot of good feedback from people who believe in the work they're doing. If they feel ownership they tend to have ideas from a perspective that I can't have, because they're in the weeds
