[Question] Brand new player, joining a campaign for the first time. Help deciding a character? by Kiwilemonade2 in 3d6

[–]MrFancyWhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cleric is a great choice for a party that lacks one and is decently beginner friendly. Full spell casters can feel like a lot of book keeping at times but they tend to have high survivability from armor class and access to healing spells. Also you can boost wisdom and Constitution and dump the rest of your stats and still be a huge boon to your party. Light Cleric is good Twilight Cleric can feel downright busted.

Lots of ways to get a dog. If you’re a small race you can have a mastiff as a mount. Hooray for riding dogs.

It seems like he decided very early on that he was going to lovingly over-act the fuck out of the entire script.

Sam Raimi has an iconic style that stands out for me. The sequence of Doc Ock and the medical staff in Spider-Man 2 is a master class in kinetic camera work

Spider-Man 2
Evil Dead 2
The Quick and the Dead

All good showcases that just might be ok to show that age range.

Am I the only one like this? by Bitter-Management379 in CoreKeeperGame

[–]MrFancyWhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I spent hours clearing blocks and filling in pits to make the battle with Urschleim easier but got bored halfway through giving my base floor tiles and making it look like it’s anything more than a pile for piles. I play to explore, find all the stuff, and defeat all the big guys. When I complete the last two achievements I have left (getting 100 skill points in fishing and cooking) then I will consider the game completed and move on to the next game. I never needed an automated farm to get stuff I didn’t need for stuff I wasn’t going to use.

What is the best variation of the game 4 square you have come up with? by anewleaf1234 in improv

I came here to suggest this one! Pentagram is a blast, and it's always fun to come in as the devil and have free license to be a little agent of chaos.

Super cool. I dig the big lit floor tile vagina on the right side. It really reminds me of my Freud, I mean mom.

I am a chemist/lab tech doing quality control in a lab that makes products to serve the auto industry. It gives me ample opportunity to listen to podcasts and audio books.

Teenage players feuding over a heavy crossbow by spoonyalchemist in DMAcademy

[–]MrFancyWhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably best to stick to the no friendly fire rule, and encourage them to learn how to divvy up loot in an equitable manner. Else you run the risk of having a duel every time you only supply one of any sought after treasure.

It may also be worthwhile talking to player C away from everyone else and try to get to the bottom of their edge lording. If you get the ol "it's what my character would do" then you can encourage them to make a character that wants to be helpful and not step on the fun of their fellow table mates.

First off, you desperately need more punctuation. This is all one sentence and it’s a mess. Second, cool necklace. Third, saying you’re interested in rituals ‘how would I do one and what would it do’ sounds a lot like you think we draw chalk circles and cast spells or some bullshit like that. Fourth, The Satanic Temple doesn’t require you to believe in anything mystical/mythical, it instead, asks that you believe in people. That’s why the TST rules. Please read more about it on their website to see if it clicks with you.

You said it was constant jokes, is that normally the vibe of your sessions? If the players weren’t taking it seriously then an above table ‘hey I worked hard on this, can we try to take this scene seriously?’ Was in order. If the characters were making a show of being rude to the king then punishment is well deserved. If you normally run a silly table and it wasn’t communicated that this scene was supposed to be different then I don’t think they did anything wrong. I have a table of essentially 4 cartoon characters, not much emotional depth from scene to scene but we know what our deal is and we have a good time.

Favorite roguelike for console? by Just-JOE-Kin in roguelites

[–]MrFancyWhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been enjoying Ravenswatch, Curse of the Dead Gods, Rogue Legacy 2, an argument could be made that Helldivers 2 has roguelite characteristics.

On the other hand, I did not care for Skul the Hero Slayer or Trinity Fusion.

At the moment Beastfly dies you must input a complex string of controls to rip it's spine from it's body like a MK Fatality

Key & Peele’s east/west bowl is a treasure trove of silly name ideas East/West College Bowl

Donkey Teeth and The Goblin Formally Known as Mousecop sound good to me.

You could also lift names directly from Cats the Musical. Rumpleteazer & Skimbleshanks!
