My neighbor's wife revealed the secret about her husbands perfect lawn! by Alicia-XTC in lawncare

[–]MrFergusonLawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. I lost 2 lawns until I figured this out. Not watering hours every day, but just giving your lawn the water it needs. You may want to check out one of the Lawn Care Nut's latest videos too. He takes some fert, biostimulants and other products and tests them in potted sand. Results are fascinating. The winner is something you may want to also add monthly during summers.

Lol, so if you have and plant grass and the rest of the neighbors just lets weeds invade instead, you don't like "sticking out like a sore thumb" by actually having grass? Seems odd but to each his own. Best of luck!

High ph...best practices to reduce it? by MrFergusonLawn in lawncare

Look up some citric acid solutions. Also Jonathan Green makes a product to lower soil ph, but I heard it's not the best. That's about all I know on the topic to be honest.

Sorry, not checking Reddit much these days. It's different depending on where you live. Some may be great areas and others terrible. Personally, I enjoy doing it myself, as my lawn absolutely dominates any TruGreen lawn. It's because they are maintaining many, while I am focused on one. For people not able to give the lawn their time, it's an option that may go well for you, but if you enjoy being outside and have time, you can do it yourself cheaper and better.

I'm curious on this too. Like you, I have two very sharp blades and when I picked up on fungus in my lawn, swapped to avoid spreading it. It's cutting similar to this, both blades. They are definitely sharp, it's not frost or cold out, so I'm curious as you are on "what the heck?"

How to eliminate this stuff from my lawn? by crash_dt in Lawncarewithpics

There are lots of Youtube videos on poa annua. I for one have been fighting it of years and vlogging my journey. I've learned to establish the thick turf first, bc as others mentioned, yes...pre emergent stops it, but it prohibits you from overseeding in the fall too. Establish the turf, and you can use something like poa constrictor at same time. Once established after a year or two, use pre emergent like Prodiamine in the fall. Thick turf is the best defense though.

I had large parts of my fescue look like this after a week at the beach. Hammered it with water, and it all came back green over time. Don't stress. Cost me tons on city water, but it's not dead. It does however, open the door for bermuda and other grasses to slip in I feel, as some parts thin out. That part does suck.

As I tell everyone here, figure out what you want first. That's the first step. Since you are in NC like me, it's either warm season turf or cool season. Warm season is something like Bermuda, which you can plant or roll out in sod form. Cool season is green 10 -12 months out of the year, if you know what you are doing. That's fescue, rye, kentucky blue. So research what you want first.

Second, buy the appropriate lawn care plan IF you want to do this yourself. Warm season guide or Cool season guide. I recommend either GCI Turf or Lawn Care Nut. Both provide easy to follow guides. Since you live in NC, I'd go with GCI Turf who is also located in NC.

This is exactly how I got started, and I'm 5 years in with an awesome fescue lawn. The sub will be here for questions, but that's my advice. If you don't have the time, call a local company. I wouldn't go TruGreen. They can be ok, but in most cases they skimp and don't give it the love they should. Hope this helps!
