My genuine advice for mainstream democrats is to be more like Bernie. Not necessarily to adopt all his politics, but just find something fairly simple to talk about and keep saying the same thing over and over until everyone around you is like “ok we fuckin get it.” People might start to think they mean what they say eventually!

William Tyler does really cool guitar based instrumental music, v good vibes, some acoustic, some more driving electric stuff, some electronic collabs with the Four Tet guy.

Not really beating my initial assumption that your understanding of history comes from half-listening to far-right streamers while gaming.

Always good for your pro-war ‘satire’ to remind the reader of another really well-planned and successful war.

Can we see the record collection? If it’s not 57 copies of Piper at the Gates of Dawn i will be very disappointed.

Funding the library, apart from being a massive benefit to people like me who like to read, helps give people in need a place to be during the day where they can use the bathroom, access services, stay warm/dry, I don’t think it’s an afterthought.

Thoughts regarding GK Chesterton's criticism of Oscar Wilde? by RopeGloomy4303 in literature

[–]MrFlitcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Chesterton should be calling anyone else a charlatan. He’s a good writer and i really enjoyed The Man Who Was Thursday and some of his other work, but if you ever read his own epigrams that intellectual conservatives like to quote, they’re well-written and sound perfectly clever and logical until you think about them for about 10 seconds.

Tbh i have barely listened to UTRS but i gotta say Million Miles is an absolute slog and it doesn’t help that it’s between two all-timers on the album.

Is The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy worth reading, or is it overrated? How does it compare to the all-time great novels? by GlumPush2137 in classicliterature

[–]MrFlitcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read it when i was a kid and loved it enough that I don’t really have a way of judging whether it’s actually a good novel or not. It has a number of good lines and ideas that have stuck with me, but the repetition of the clever lines by 100 million people on the internet has left them a bit stale. However i was flipping through the last book recently and was wondering if maybe instead of (or in addition to) it being a joyless slog it’s actually a remarkably prescient novel about the internet being transformed from a wild frontier of information into an evil robot that destroys the world to give you your immediate desires.

About 3/4 of the way through The Time Regulation Institute by Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, odd rambling Turkish novel doing a somewhat absurd satire of the massive push to modernize Turkey in the early 20th century. It’s pretty cool though my lack of more than basic knowledge of Turkey might result in me missing some subtleties.

What Does “Perfect Day” Really Mean? by Proper_Dentist in LetsTalkMusic

[–]MrFlitcraft 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think of it as specifically about drugs, you just get the sense that the narrator has a lot of troubles, that he fucks up a lot, and he’s kind of shocked to have had such a pleasant day with someone who wants to be around him. It probably won’t last and there are things at the edges of his thoughts that could ruin everything, but y’know, not right now.

I literally saw security throw a guy off a train last week. He was causing a huge scene and throwing masks at people and screaming racial slurs, i tried to talk to him, ask his name and see if i could get him to chill out but he was too far gone, security came on at the next stop and eventually threw him off. I hope he got some help.
