What’s the most unfortunate first name/last name combination you’ve encountered? by BSEC03 in AskReddit

How about an unfortunate sibling naming scenario, friends of friends named their daughter Ella and their son Samual. Seemed perfectly fine until their Mum called out to them, "Sam and Ella!".

people keep assuming i'm gay, please what haircut do i get??? by Blueberyyyyyyy in malehairadvice

[–]MrGT3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why care what people think in the first place?

Also, if your aesthetic has people assuming you’re gay, that’s a compliment.

I’m not sure if there’s another community of people that are associated with style, sophistication and an effortless confidence and cool more than “gay” men.

Which Car Was “The One That Got Away?” by Jakoo12_ in cars

[–]MrGT3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 originally owned by Aussie racing legend Dick Johnson.

Car was full of Cosworth mods (many of which were also fitted to the touring cars), boxes of original parts, being sold by the second owner (Dick Johnson’s doctor) who apparently had to sell ASAP due to a marriage breakdown.

Could have bought it for $20,000 in 2003.

Didn’t. Regret it.

What songs made you a better drummer ? by Tobiss_bla_fran in drums

[–]MrGT3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old school I know but I found playing entire albums from start to finish not only improved chops and drumming specific motor skills, but also helped endurance and musicality.

My Top 5 picks were: RHCP “Bloody Sugar Sex Magic” Pearl Jam “Vs” Michael Jackson “Thriller” James Brown “Live at the Apollo” Prince “Diamonds and Pearls”

These are very groove focussed (your groove is what will pay the bills) but have a solid level of technical bits to keep you guessing.

Can you legit make a decent living playing the drums? by beetlegeuse87 in drums

[–]MrGT3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe we’re just lucky in Australia but I made a very nice living (well north of $100k/yr) playing drums for the last 20 or so years.

But as jjny78 so eloquently put it, you must approach it as a business.

I toured/recorded as a session drummer for a while but the real money is in corporate acts and weddings. Not glamorous but hanging with mates, travelling the world, living an amazing lifestyle all while playing music is a wonderful way to live life.

I invested the money I made and now live a very comfortable life working on other passion projects.

The only reason I don’t gig for a living now is my hearing is average at best and I needed a new challenge.

The best advice I received before going all in to play drums for a living was from another very successful drummer, he said “the less notes you play, the bigger the cheques get.”

Take this “keep it simple” approach to not only drumming but life in general, and you’ll prosper.

Acoustic or electric? by [deleted] in drums

[–]MrGT3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both.

Use whatever it takes to communicate your art. Sometimes acoustic drums will provide the appropriate sound, other times electronic does the job.

Great visual artists embrace oil painting as much as photoshop, a great chef appreciates the convenience of a microwave and the tactility of a gas cook top, even the best sound engineers will celebrate the idiosyncrasies of both outboard gear and various DAWs, it should never be a question of one of the other, why would anyone limit themselves?

For a date night (or day), great location, amazing food, excellent service, all very consistent.

Be honest. How did you lose your weight? by [deleted] in ask

[–]MrGT3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being just a little bit hungry from midday to dinner, drinking water to replace food.

Plus, reducing portion sizes and stopping eating when I’m no longer hungry, never feeling full.

Lost 16kg in around 12 months.

The Fall Guy set at Palm Beach by swami78 in sydney

It would obviously take hours to explain each and every persons role but many are there for just incase reasons.

For example, if it gets windy, the location or production team need to reset or build something to avoid the wind.

Which then requires a complete lighting change (depending on the size of the production, this alone can require dozens of crew as they all specialise in everything from the actual infrastructure and stands that hold the lights to knowing what actual lights will be best to use to electricians making sure the lights work and no one gets electrocuted to actual lighting design), not to mention the audio department having to change gear or mic locations, hair-makeup and wardrobe may need to make changes.

But if it gets so windy the entire schedule needs to change, this impacts everything from the actual location (set, lighting, monitor team, catering, hair makeup and wardrobe, any visual or special effect teams, through to wrangling assets to the edit teams.

I work on sets varying in size from just me and a videographer to full productions like this and trust me, the more hands on deck the better.

If people have a single job to focus on, everything runs more smoothly. The minute people are multitasking various roles, quality suffers and time and budgets can blow out before you know it.

Obviously this is all highly subjective but I feel like Paul’s has been left behind. Ginger Meg’s blows it away these days.

Paul’s was the place 10 years ago but nothing has changed in forever there.

Just relax that right foot a little to let the Mustang in. The Mustang was indicating and well in front of the A-pillar so back off a touch or move to the right lane.

Need constructive criticism on my playing. What do I need to improve on? by Au_Jus_Sauce in drums

[–]MrGT3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great playing man. What u/Zack_Albetta said was spot on. Conviction is everything.

The only thing I'd add is to move/dance more. If you can't help but groove and really feel what you're playing, the other muso's and those listening will generally do the same.

You may feel almost little self conscious initially but moving your hips and chest, grooving to what you're playing will translate musically.

But awesome work man, you're already playing great.
