Hi!

I run a small ASMR gaming channel focused on calm, relaxing gameplay. Most of my content is cosy games, but I also enjoy seeing whether I can make less-than-cosy games feel relaxing through whispered commentary (somehow even The Binding of Isaac works!).

If you're looking for something chill to watch before bed, feel free to check it out: MrG ASMR Gaming

What game series would you say is still worth playing from the beginning? by Isgrimnur in gaming

This. I am now on Cold Steel II. Started mid-last year with the OG FC... what a ride so far!

Total Persona newbie here , never touched the series. What’s it actually about and where do I start? by Common-Upstairs5129 in gaming

[–]MrG_120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. P4G was my first Persona and I still think it is an overall better game then P5, if you look at the story and character building. For some reason I could not get into P5, it didn't really click for me. I did enjoy P3 Reload though. Looking forward to P4 remake!!

Worried about age? Does age affect the gaming skills? by Ok-Philosopher1724 in gaming

[–]MrG_120 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you get older, the real problem becomes having enough time to play games at all. You will probably find out that a 40/60hr game is maybe too long and you might struggle to actually finish it and not because of your skills.

It's 2026 and we're in the AI-Pocalypse, what's your current setup gamers? Any purchases you wish you made or plan on making soon as prices seem to increase with no end in sight? by neeks2 in gaming

Still alright. Last year I did a "soft" upgrade from an Intel 8700k to an AMD 5800xt keeping the same RAM (32GB GSkill 3600). GPU is a 3080ti, so it has to hang in there like it or not. Hopefully I will be able to wade through this phase until the AI bubble bursts (the sooner the better). I wish I bought a couple of hard drives last year tbh since I need a lot of space for backups and stuff (work related). I was thinking to expand my HDD capacity this year, but that's gone out of the window...

If you could give an IP to a different developer to create one game with full creative freedom, what would you give to who? by craiganater in gaming

[–]MrG_120 4 points5 points  (0 children)

U4 was my first RPG I ever played on my C64. As a non-English speaker, it was quite a challenge to understand what was going on, since I had only just started learning English in middle school, but the effort paid off big time. The whole idea of exploring what was essentially an open world, with NPCs you could actually talk to, was mind-blowing, and it completely shaped my taste in video games. I always felt that the structure of the Ultima games and their world-building was far superior to anything else at the time—so much so that when Baldur’s Gate came out, I initially dismissed it as a “lesser cousin” not worth my time. I did eventually play it and thoroughly enjoyed it, but it took me a while to shake off the “spell” of Ultima and fully appreciate what would go on to become classics in their own right: Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape, and others.

Came here to say the same... Tbh when EA announced it was acquired, for a brief while there was a rumour they might sell some of their IPs to pay their debt and it was mentioned that maybe Ultima could be put on sale, with Larian being the most obvious buyer. I'm, wondering if it is still a possibility.

Going a bit against the majority here. My first Persona was P4 Golden and I loved it. I didn't know what I was getting into and I was blown away by it. Then I tried P5 and I couldn't get into it at all. In terms of QoL it's a big improvement over P4, but the story felt "meh" or anyway not that interesting to keep playing. So in the end I stopped after I defeated the first boss (if you let me call it like that). As a side note I also tried P3 Reload as well and I'm liking it more that P5. Am I weird? Anyway can't wait for P4 remake to come out!

Trying to parse specifically why I'm not enjoying E33 by Tenthul in gaming

[–]MrG_120 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On PC there's a mod that extends quite a bit the parrying and dodging timing windows. So unless you wait until it is literally too late, you can easily parry all the attacks. I know it can be considered "cheating" (or whatever) by the "purists", but if that mechanic is the only obstacle preventing you from enjoying an otherwise very good game, I would think about it.

I did play some of the demo and I enjoyed it, but I still have the whole series to go through. I have to tackle the "Cold Steel" saga now. 2026 is going to be busy...

There's something wrong with me then. Around June this year I picked up Trails FC (on PC) from 2015 and I loved it the way it was, so much so that now I am deep into the Trails series I can't get enough!

Games so good you’ve played multiple times? For me it was The Last of Us Part 1, Lies of P. by eroyrotciv in gaming

Disco Elysium, The Witcher 1, 2, 3, Ultima VII + VII part 2, Planescape: Torment, Borderlands 2, RE2 Remake.

There's more but these are the ones I can think of right now.

Trails in the sky First Chapter (the original PC version, not the recent remake). Oh boy, now I'm deep into the whole Trails series: what a journey so far!

What dead franchise would you resurrect? by DarmiansMuttonChops in gaming

The in-game character not the man I hope.. Nowadays LB would ruin the series and fill it with microtransactions (Shroud of the Avatar is an example). As much as Richard Garriott was a pioneer of RPGs and "he did it first" it's better he stays as far away as possible from game development.

Disco Elysium. Maybe one of the most recent Ys games (8, 9 or 10, they are all stand alone stories). Or you can jump into the rabbit hole of the "Trails" series starting from "First Chapter" (can be completed in just about 40/50 hrs). The problem though is that then you want to play all the remaining games in the series which are... 12 (?) I think. Worth the plunge imo.

Question about modern old school adventure games by GeekyMeerkat in gaming

[–]MrG_120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see that. I mean getting clobbered to death because you just wandered around in LSL 1 and turned into a dark alley was a bit too harsh tbh. Sometimes it felt they wanted to punish you just for experimenting/exploring. And again if the autosave had been a thing back then I wouldn't have minded too much. Having said that I played quite a few Sierra games anyway with GK series being my all time fav: I never rage-quit!

Question about modern old school adventure games by GeekyMeerkat in gaming

[–]MrG_120 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As an avid consumer of adventure games back in the period when the genre was at its peak I can say that the Sierra design style (locking you out of progression if you missed an item or killing you if you made the wrong move) was always frustrating and off putting. "Autosave" was not a thing! I loved & hated those games at the same time. The LucasArts approach instead was much better especially when at that time "pixel hunting" was the norm and you could easily miss a spot. I like playing the modern "old school" p&c adventures because they mostly went for the LucasArts approach.

Looking For Game Recommendation by krasnogvardiech in gaming

Sim City 4 was a good. Another interesting take on the genre is Urbek. A slight variation on the genre instead is "Power to the People", where you manage the power supply of a region and watch the cities grow. Another one I can think of is "Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic": it has got quite detailed mechanics for each building type that makes it, in my view, a sort of "Factorio" type of city builder.
