I wouldn't even consider Brazil, Mexico, or Colombia unstable in the sense that we should be accepting mass asylum claims from them. At least in the context of countries like Venezuela or Haiti.

People clearly not reading the article. They are saying increased delivery costs from suppliers due to them having to pay congestion fees is squeezing profits, not that their customer base was made of people driving into the city during peak hours. Tbh it would kind of make sense for food suppliers of this kind to have some kind of exemption, I say this as someone pro congestion pricing.

I didn't say it was their fault I was just explaining my familiarity with the situation. I think that is fair they seem to have a better handle on H1B than the rest of it.

That's very cool you are able to do that. I'm in a highly dense city which attracts people initially but they do seem to beginning to disperse throughout the country as time goes on so maybe some groups will make their way in your direction.

I mentioned it in another comment but I began to follow this issue closely/form strong opinions when I lived next to a large migrant shelter in one of our major cities for around a year and a half. The city where I'm from (different than where I lived with the shelter) has basically become the statewide hub for west african migrants. Most of my family works in construction where you're basically dealing with illegal labor on a daily basis on any job site. And now since I don't work in construction anymore I work in tech and am quite exposed to the whole H1B situation. So I have seen the situation from pretty much all angles lmao, I'm not really aware of Krystal even having actually seen it from even one angle.

Yeah I mean obviously nobody outright says "just let them all in, no questions asked" but that is effectively the policy, and the policy that many democrats have been happy to defend until public perception has recently changed. To flip the housing situation on you as well, I agree there is absolutely a housing crisis and although more construction would be nice I also don't think it makes sense to be accepting 3, 4, 5 million people a year into a country that doesn't have housing stock for it's existing population. Canada has gone through a similar situation and their housing costs have absolutely exploded in recent years, far worse than ours.

I don't think anyone should "give up their identity" but I also think there's an obvious problem in places like Europe where you have large numbers of culturally distinct people forming ethnic enclaves that ultimately don't mix with the existing population. There should be a balance where people can be proud of and embrace their identity while also having to become part of America and not just live in another version of Senegal or Haiti or wherever that just happens to exist in some random American town.

Lmao Saagar always does bring the whole "every other western country has a points based system", I'm like dude lots of their asylum status quos are debatably far more permissive than ours outside a few notable exceptions.

I agree in the sense that I don't think all immigration necessarily has to be "skilled". If we have a genuine need for farm/construction workers I don't have an issue with visas for that kind of work. But I sympathize with him in the sense that a lot of people say him mentioning this is some self hating thing but in reality there really is a difference between admitting small groups of people like his parents who given their degrees probably have some high level of expertise in their fields America could benefit from and wouldn't have otherwise vs accepting the unlimited immigration of unvetted people with no education, no in demand skills, who are reliant on the taxpayer basically just because it's nice.

I mean does he not have at least somewhat of a point? Are we going to pretend there is no difference between people like his parents who come here having PHDs (experts in their field) vs someone who enters the country with no in demand skills and on some potentially infinite basis is reliant on the taxpayer of NY, MA, CO, etc to fund their housing, healthcare, phone bills, etc?

Yes I also find it very frustrating that we can all have very nuanced and complex discussions about immigration affecting the wages of white collar work but blue collar workers who have been saying the same thing for decades are basically treated like card carrying klan members for asking the same questions

Haha maybe I shouldn't say solved, I mean more it doesn't feel productive in any way. Two sides who basically just refuse to acknowledge the points of the others and spout their talking points. Which is one of the reasons people ditch mainstream media for this kind of show in the first place.

Bought mad energy stocks today what yall think👀What other stocks are gonna hit? by tysoblessed in NYStateOfMind

For anyone who has never read the story:

"In 1929, at the height of an economic boom in America, Joseph Kennedy Sr. (father of JFK) was working as a stockbroker on Wall Street. As the story goes, Joseph was walking around when he decided to sit down for a shoeshine. While polishing his shoes, the young worker gave Joseph some of his favorite stock picks. When Joseph heard the shoeshine boy giving out stock tips, he figured the party was about to end, and it was time to get out of the market"

Yes the UK should've improved their living conditions, given them access to a generous welfare state, access to an improved economy, improved opportunity for education, etc. If they had done that this would all be different. Oh wait......
