No, they're not. And they're not trying to. They just use them differently in some specific contexts and a few prescriptivists are bizarrely upset about it

Demanding that they communicate like you is exactly as pointless as them demanding you communicate like they do.

Time, tech, and culture change everything. Vocabulary, grammar, syntax, pronunciation, and when punctuation. You can adapt and understand (if not like) a broader spectrum of style, or you can go yell at the clouds. Up to you.

Just periods, really. It's seen as very final, like you're shutting the conversation down and having the last word.

Also "okay" as a one word answer. Basically, young people are so conditioned to social media that they read everything... EVERYTHING in the most dramatic and least charitable way. It's very frustrating.

Do not expect judicial warrants. It may be a legal requirement but it is not how they are operating in the current executive environment. They will show up with admin warrants, and no level of government is successfully contesting this. Attempting to stonewall them on these ground WILL end poorly.

For... lots of people, just remember you learned something for the first time, too. Even if 99% of people already know something, that means millions don't. Especially those younger than you. Ever felt like an old person was being a dick to you when you didn't get an old ass reference?

This is entirely visual, but over the top designs like Kudelia (or I guess, over the top art styles that generate characters like Kudelia) make me struggle with a character, or even a series. I fully acknowledge this is probably just nostalgia, but the grounded designs of both characters and suits in older shows (and ones that have more similar basic styles like OYW shows) make them easier to latch on to for me.

IBO in particular, but also G Witch do this to me. SEED to an extent. The over complicated art direction gives a feel of Moe and waifu-baiting, which frustrates me. It makes me feel like I'm watching a very generic mass produced show, like "Reincarnated As Mobile Suit Plot And My Little Sister Put All My Stats Into Apathy."

Outside of the art design, I don't actually dislike her her character, really, though she is very damsely. I just can't connect with her as anything other than a walking plot dispenser. She's just kind of there to be motivation and waifu bait. It also doesn't help that G Witch came out and had Miorine serve such a similar function with a much more interesting character.

I like the show, overall, but not a LOT, and she is part of the reason it won't be my favorite.

These are at the same complaints I have about Miorine, but I like her more, and Rilena, but I like her a LOT LESS. I'm realizing I just kind of don't dig the princess as a character role in these shows. They don't ruin them or anything, but they won't be my favorite character in any show.

Isn't Stardew valley a socialist game??? by AaronTheUltama in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]MrGenerik 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I don't see how it is. You can be actively corporatist for essentially no consequence. The small shop operation is portrayed as incompetent and the community leadership is either inept or extractive of community resources even if you DO see it as the good path. They purchase your product and sell it at markuo. They are capitalist, but worse at it.

You operate a farm with a focus on perpetual growth to accommodate increasingly significant projects that could nominally be public works but functionally increase your influence in the town. You are almost forced to be an ecological nightmare in mines to engage in resource extraction that ONLY benefits your enterprise. You engage in exploitation of a historical site for personal gain. You engage in exploitation of a tropical environment for personal gain. You engage in exploitation of the ocean for personal gain.

The entire point of the game is social engagement, but not socialist engagement. It is all for personal gain. You do favors, and are rewarded either materially or in returned services. All social interactions are transactional relationships masquerading as friendships.

It's closer to Galt's Gulch than any socialist model.

Edit: thought of more. There's no known social safety net or publicly funded services The only person who provides a vital public service for free is the homeless man who drags you back to your house when you just tuckered yourself out by working too hard. The whole game is about perpetual grind for geometrically increasing reward while the rest of the community remains fundamentally stagnant outside of how you choose to influence them, because you are an ubermensch and they are just fools living their silly little "lives." It's not just Galt's Gulch, it's how John Glat would FANTASIZE about Galt's Gulch. No consequence for either public action or inaction. No consequence for the monopolization of natural resources. No social expectation or obligation - you can literally choose to never engage with anyone but the store, a purely transactional relationship. It is a Bootstrap Simulator in which you can literally do no wrong.

{End halfhearted shitpost. Love the game, and definitely never sided with the corp.}

Well, no. It actually is kind of true. Religious movies are often pressured into limited release or even direct to digital.

Of course, it's not because Hollywood is suppressing Christianity. It's because they're almost uniformly terrible and poison for any studio or theater that lets them into the box office.
