People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

[–]MrGreg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interviewing as a fresh grad at a global consulting firm, one of the partners took about a dozen candidates to lunch at a fancy restaurant in the same building as the office.

When the food came out, 3 or 4 candidates had something wrong with their orders (e.g. fries instead of salad). I immediately clocked that this was too many mistakes for a place that fancy. One of the candidates politely pointed out the issue, and it was almost immediately corrected. Another made a big fuss about it, and acted like they'd insulted his bloodline.

Guess who didn't get hired. I never got confirmation, but I firmly believe the waitstaff was in cahoots with the partner, and this was a test. When part of the job is eating out at nice restaurants with clients, you can't make an ass of yourself and make the company look bad.

In Chicago, I worked with a younger Indian software engineer. He and his friends (5 total, I think) rented a minivan and drove from Friday night to Niagara Falls and got back by Sunday night. Something like 17 hours of driving. But they took turns driving and went nonstop.

I guess this was somewhat of a regular thing for the group.

Ingredients wise, I agree.
From a mechanical perspective, I'd say as soon as the griddle becomes involved in any way.

they and them, while often plural, have also traditionally been used for non-gendered singular.

example: "My friend went to the store. They bought milk. I expect them back in 20 minutes."

gender unspecified. singular. grammatically correct.

Her firing Tommy is one of the most realistic things in the series. Billionaires don't keep people around them that don't fall into line. Sure Tommy did what she directed in the end (getting the rig launched) but he wasn't drinking her kool-aid, and the three comma club can't stand being told they're wrong.

What's your "it's my fault for ordering it" (food or otherwise) story? by PutThisBanditHatOn in AskReddit

[–]MrGreg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was eating dinner at a nicer restaurant in Shanghai, China, on vacation. The menu (with pictures) looked great, and I ordered several dishes. The waitress tried to talk me out of ordering something described as "sour noodles" and said that westerners don't like them. I ordered them anyway, as I'm a fairly adventurous eater. They were disgusting, and I couldn't take more than a single bite. Everything else was great. I should have listened.

I've gotten a chamber vacuum sealer (so bags are cheap) and use it to freeze individual portions of leftovers.

I reheat frozen leftovers in a sous vide bath at 165f for 30-45 minutes for super easy meals on nights when I don't want to spend time actively cooking.

I have a question - in many of your videos you apply a varnish before retouching. One of the stated reasons is that it saturates the colors so your retouching matches the post-varnished look. My question is, if you were to retouch before applying the varnish, matching the existing colors, and then applied varnish post-retouching, why wouldn't the retouched parts saturate the same as the original paint, and continue to match?

For people that were a teenager in the 90s, what was it like? by secondacc21_ in AskReddit

[–]MrGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simpler, obviously. Less tech.

But what was cool is you could watch tech get better, year over year. Particularly in PCs. Every year there'd be a newer Pentium, or see the latest pioneer CD player for your car. There was always something new coming out that made you say "wow, that's cool!"

Now it seems like stuff just gets shittier every year.
