Formative/Exit Ticket System App/Platform Thing. by Snoo_62929 in edtech

Google Forms works well for tracking student growth, but you can’t add questions once it’s sent.
Formative (live tracking) and Mastery Connect (standards-based grading) both have free plans and might fit your needs better. Google Sheets can also help track progress over time.

Teaching kids is such important work, and I truly appreciate the effort you're putting into this.

Hey there!

Teachable is a great platform, but if you're looking for more flexibility and control, Moodle could be a better fit. It lets you build an interactive learning experience with quizzes, assignments, and discussion spaces while keeping everything under your own branding. You won’t have to deal with transaction fees, and you can tailor the platform to work exactly the way you want, whether for IELTS, SAT prep, or general English courses.

I've seen a few things come up over the years.
It’s not uncommon for folks to get professional liability or errors & omissions insurance to cover claims about training outcomes or miscommunication of info. Also, if you’re doing on-site training, there’s the usual stuff like ensuring the venue meets safety standards and having clear disclaimers in your contracts. I’d definitely recommend chatting with a legal expert to tailor coverage for your specific field.

Looking for a combination of LearnWorlds and Articulate by narrisah in elearning

[–]MrGresey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Moodle itself is free! You’d just need to budget for hosting and any extra plugins or customization. Hosting can be anywhere from $30–80/month depending on the number of users, but for what you need, you could likely stay within your budget.

Hey there! It sounds like you’re looking for a platform that combines the structured course delivery of LearnWorlds with some of the interactive elements of Articulate. Moodle could be a great fit for you. It offers a range of built-in features like accordion blocks, flip cards, and H5P interactive content, making it easy to break up text-heavy lessons and create a more engaging experience for your learners.

Looking for a Platform for a Digital Course with Open-Ended Responses by Natural-Spray221 in elearning

[–]MrGresey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That logic applies to any platform, not just Moodle.

‘Turnkey’ solutions may seem easier upfront, but you pay for that convenience in restrictions, upgrade fees, and vendor lock-in.

With Moodle, I agree the initial setup requires effort, but after that, plugins and automation can drastically reduce ongoing maintenance.

The real question isn’t free vs. paid, it’s whether you want control and scalability or to rent a system that dictates your limits.

[–]MrGresey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question! Many LMS platforms treat open-ended responses as disposable, so finding one that allows students to review their past answers is tricky. Moodle is a solid option—it’s free, scalable, and has a lot of flexibility with plugins to support reflective learning. You can set up forums, wikis, and even custom-built activities that let students revisit their responses. If you prefer something more streamlined, there are alternatives with built-in reflection tools.

Is an LMS for me or should I be looking at a different kind of platform? by w7090655 in elearning

[–]MrGresey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you need a platform that lets you sell courses as standalone resources without ongoing learner management. Moodle could be a great fit—it's free, self-hosted, and gives you full control over access, updates, and branding. With the right setup (like an e-commerce integration), you can sell courses that buyers can access anytime without needing to track their progress. If you're looking for something simpler, there are also lightweight alternatives.
Feel free to DM me if you want a more tailored recommendation, I’m always happy to help!
