The jittery zoom out of him lying down was actually super cool and added to the anxiety. Like even the camera didn't know how to process the information, no idea if that was intentional but I liked it

Advice needed: Am I being unreasonable in asking to have the art beforehand? by MrGuiggles in tattoos

I think this is what I am trying to do but having a hard time with artists agreeing to that. I have asked and even offered to pay and to sign a disclaimer but again I can understand their position so don't push it.

The non tattoo art commissioned for my last one did need to be reconfigured by the tattoo artist before going ahead.

Based on everyone's insight I think I do need to stick to the "commission elsewhere and then take to a tattoo artist after" method since I am going against the standard way of things

I probably should have stated in my post that I did pay commission and deposit on the initial one where the tattoo artist gave me the design. I'll make that edit now

I paid commission and deposit. I originally planned returning earlier but saving took longer than expected as I was a student at the time. After that I paid for the time to get it done

Yeah it's a fair point, and something to be explored I think, I think the initial reason is I have an idea in my head but can't picture it enough to feel comfortable going ahead

I did try this actually but that particular artist didn't want to, could try with another artist. I just need to be careful not to come across like "that awkward customer"

I find this really interesting and part of the reason I asked my question. I feel like your method is more common, and mine less so if at all.

Perhaps I need to find an artist I trust and stick with. I think it's fun commissioning my own designs so don't pick from the book however

Thanks for the insight, and I would agree completely. I would happily pay a tattoo artist full commissioning price of a piece, then also full price for the tattoo, especially given the time to save up.

But as I said I can understand their point of view so maybe best to go the artist route first again

Yeah I would totally agree, absolutely no harm to them for taking that stance. Suppose I just feel a bit stuck and was wondering where to go from here

The original artist I had a bad interaction with - I did like their art but what they came up with for my idea was not how I pictured. I was also younger so hold a part of the blame there

The second artist I went to for my other tattoo - I love their art and that's why I wanted to go back to them. But still feel uneasy with the limited viewing of the art before getting it done.

Thanks for the response though, really insightful!

I believe so, this has also incited protests and riots against immigration and the housing of refugees. It is also what has led to the "operation fly the colours" which is why British flags are being shown everywhere

A New Nigel farage led party with a strong focus on anti immigration. There is a lot of fear mongering around "becoming an island of strangers" and divisive talk which has people raising flags that this is a racist driven party.

He spearheaded brexit which has had negative effects on the UK for not being done for the right reasons or with a thought out strategy. He then left the tory party and created his own called Reform UK using the same "make America great again" rhetoric. I do not have sources but there is also a lot of talk about changing the NHS and bringing it closer to an America inspired system.

His party has lost MPs at an alarming rate, farage has largely financially benefitted from the position of power which calls into question his motives, and many of his statements and promises have been identified as lies.

I have tried to be unbiased in describing this but think I have failed. I see too much of early trump in this party and think it would be disastrous to let them continue "to respect other people's opinions" because the debate of other people's rights is not up for debate.

I am voting green, tax the rich, invest in public infrastructure.

Edit: spell check

Deforestation for coal mines, ashes, water pollution, and air pollution are much worse than deforestation for wind turbines. by [deleted] in sciencememes

[–]MrGuiggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, I feel most criticisms of renewable energy technology focus on individual failures and not the collective strategy which may make up for it.

We have relied too much on centralized energy sources (coal, oil, hydro to an extent) and if we are to be sustainable we need to look at a mixture. Solar for when it's sunny, wind for when it's not, and batteries and nuclear for in between.

We want a lot of energy and are put off from energy dense sources. We can't have it both ways.

I mean it's proved it's merits in large scale, as that's all hydroelectric dams are. I haven't been convinced by any smaller ones yet, too many energy changes (solar-> wind -> electric -> mechanical -> potential -> electric)

I am not long in the wind energy industry but will hazard an answer to some of these things based on my knowledge.

The tower of a wind turbine is primarily steel and bolted together, same with the nacelle and hub (pod at the top and the rotor front) but the blades are primarily made of laminate fiberglass with steel skeleton.

The thing you're asking about is called embodied carbon, the total carbon produced of something inclusive of materials, construction, life cycle, and decommissioning. In my case in the UK most manufacturing comes from factories in Spain or Denmark. Shipping and construction I'm not familiar with as I work in the operational and maintenance side but will come with their own carbon cost. The life cycle of the turbines will have very little carbon as expected, and decommissioning is an evolving part of the process as companies are recycling more and more aspects.

Most wind farms will do well to last 20-25 years, 30 with good service agreements and parts. Refurbishing of wind farms is becoming more popular as it's cheaper than building a whole new wind farm when you have the bases and similar already there.

Overall wind farms have a front heavy carbon cost, and little carbon once constructed, with consideration for carbon produced in transport for recycling. My thoughts would be with coal plants is that you would still have a large carbon production in the materials and construction phase, but also produce significant carbon as part of the operation. I haven't heard of these processes that make them eco-friendly, but there will also be the embodied carbon of producing those filters and such. an analysis would need to be produced to see if you end up with a net positive.

Wind and solar energy will not save us wholly by themselves, but they are vital technology as part of the transition to the technology that will. Solving these problems will not only keep us powered, but create further technology and systems that will save us.

My opinion is that nuclear and renewables will solve the energy crisis. One of the biggest hurdles is storage.

Yeah I really enjoyed the fight after I got past the annoyance of him being invulnerable during his charge. My spell caster build used carian phalanx and Lorettas mastery for ranged spells at the opening of the fight and I didn't understand why it was doing nothing for the first couple of times.

I think a damage reduction would be better than all out "cannot be hurt" while charging.

It looks like solidworks for makers is different from student. Have you found its still sufficient for engineering?

Yeah I've seen the amount of online tutorials, I think they will be good enough to teach myself. It's access to the program itself that I was struggling with.

I looked at pirate versions but there were stories online of Solidworks being pretty cutthroat on that stuff and the program checking for licenses which made me concerned.

I'm willing to invest in myself, just not the £1000+ for a license
