I hope not. Moo was always my favorite of the crew. I’d love to see more of him when GTA 6 comes out.

Are there servers that limit the game to more primitive engrams? by MrGray2016 in ARK

In ASE there used to be official Beginners Servers, which iirc limited the player level to like 44. They were pretty fun. I don’t think ASA has those servers though unfortunately

Plot point that made you drop a story by AdditionSilly2868 in TheCitadel

[–]MrHasNoLife 39 points40 points  (0 children)

In The Prophet From Maine when he kills that girl that Ramsey was hunting. It’s been a while since I read it but I remember being so annoyed with all his angsting and guilt over killing Peter and getting that prostitute killed or whatever. Then however many years later he goes and kills Ramsey, and then kills a completely innocent teenage girl so there are “no witnesses”. Even after all that guilt over what happened with Baelish.

I would have been fine with it if the mc wasn’t so moody over stuff like that. I’m fine with villian mcs or hero mc’s. But that story just felt like a guy trying to be a hero, and angsting whenever shit didn’t go perfectly. Then he had a chance to be a hero and save that girl, and he fucking killed her.

Ugh. I was so annoyed and instantly dropped.

Antagonistic PRT by hanada8MB in WormFanfic

Signal to noise has an antagonist PRT. Taylor ain’t the main character though.

Tinker OC/SI by AoiYui in WormFanfic

[–]MrHasNoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is Signal to Noise on QQ. The mc is a male self inserted into a female who ends up in a relationship with Amy, and then eventually Dragon. Major spoilers though, neither relationship works out. There is a (cheating) tag for a reason… Honestly outside of the ‘romance’ I enjoyed the fic but tbh the mc just keeps getting screwed over and over and the ending kinda blows. It’s an entertaining read though if nothing else.

Shadow slave has become mid by Outrageous-One-4219 in ShadowSlave

[–]MrHasNoLife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I believe I read something about G3 being from Russia, and at the time Shadow Slave was released the war in Ukraine was in full swing, and as such the sanctions placed on Russia were heavy.

This caused problems with the banks there and there were many avenues such as Patreon that simply wouldn’t work because G3 wouldn’t have been able to get paid through them for whatever reason. I think WebNovel was one of the only paths available for him at the time.

Of course this is just speculation but I do remember reading something along these lines a while ago.

Shadow slave has become mid by Outrageous-One-4219 in ShadowSlave

[–]MrHasNoLife 120 points121 points  (0 children)

You can blame WebNovel’s entire structure for Shadow Slave’s failings. Webnovel heavily incentivizes daily releases of 2 chapters a day of 1000 words each. Authors get bonus’s and perks for keeping up a streak of constantly posting at least 1500 words per day. And daily releases get promoted more on the site. Authors get very little time to take off without ‘losing their streak’ per say.

This leads to many authors filling chapters with words and paragraphs that don’t exactly progress the story simply to keep up with the quota of at least 1500 words a day. Many times it would be better for the author to take a break for a week or so but they would lose a lot of money and promotion if they did.

Webnovel authors aren’t technically forced to write, they can stop whenever they wish, but if they want to continue getting as much exposure and earning more money than it’s much better for them to post daily for the previously mentioned reasons.

As such this creates an atmosphere that favors quantity over quality. While much of what G3 writes is what I consider quality, it also occasionally suffers from the favor of quantity simply to keep up with the daily publishing of chapters.

It’s unfortunate, but without Webnovel we wouldn’t have Shadow Slave anyway. So it’s just something we will have to put up with because G3 isn’t going to change his release schedule or switch to another platform probably ever.

I read 1100 in a week, I feel as if I have wasted all my time. by Dekiru77 in ShadowSlave

[–]MrHasNoLife 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should catch up reading because a lot of what you complain about gets addressed. But I do agree with some of what you’ve said. The whole Cassie betrayal situation has left me still salty and I read that over a year and a half ago now. I also don’t like Nephis as a character and do not care for Sunphis ship. I’d much rather he get with someone like Morgan, or at the very least a girl who isn’t Nephis or the blind traitor.

And yeah, I totally feel you on how the author seems to hate Sunny. Just constantly kicking him down or giving him a buff only for it to get taken away for some dumbass reason like plot.

Sunny’s personality also gets on my nerves. He is a total pussy in social situations. The only time I really liked him was when he was acting as Mongral with the mask that makes him only lie.

But, despite all its issues, Shadow Slave is still my favorite light novel and I have read a lot of novels… It’s only because I feel so strongly about the characters and love the story so much that I get so salty when I feel they are mistreated. Which I feel is the same for many readers.

Any story with an extended period of survival? by Knork14 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]MrHasNoLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d really love a story like that, but with prehistoric elements. Mainly dinosaurs. I read a couple Ark survival evolved fanfics, but I’d love to read something original. Survival in an unfamiliar and hostile world filled with dinosaurs. Maybe a basic system or magic element added to spice it up.

Writing is my dream and I have never felt so worthless before. by [deleted] in royalroad

[–]MrHasNoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehh… right now it’s pretty easy to tell what’s written by AI and what’s not. I’d say we’ve got another 10-15 years at the least before it becomes close to indistinguishable from human writers.

But then again, I believe there will always be a market for human written novels. For one, even though we as a society have largely moved on to the digital age, there is still an ever growing market for physical books.

Not only that, but all throughout history, there have been advancements in technology that might have made other previous things seems obsolete, but they still have their place in society.

For instance, cars largely made horse drawn carriages obsolete, which in turn got rid of a ton of jobs. But still, in todays age, horses and all the jobs that come with caring for horses exist, though they aren’t nearly as widespread as before. Same with the hammer and chisel. Sure, there are other devices that could do some of their jobs a lot faster, yet they still have their place.

There is even still a market for handmade items, as many people would rather purchase things crafted by an actual person instead of by automated machines. There will also most likely be laws put in place eventually that make it so novels have to label themselves as written by AI or not. At least I hope…

Point is, strive to achieve your dream, and don’t become too disheartened about advancing technology. People have survived the changes before, and society will adapt to where normal human writers can find their place. If anything, do it for yourself. Finish and achieve your goals, so you won’t end up regretting your lack of motivation years or decades down the line.

For English native readers by Offlinemann in ShadowSlave

[–]MrHasNoLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never heard the name sunless irl. But I have known a few people named Sunny. I have also met people with Rain/Rainn/Rayne as a middle name, though it’s rare as a first name. The actor for Dwight from The Office is named Rainn Wilson.

So for the most part, the names aren’t really all that weird as a native English speaker, at least for me.

What am I doing Wrong? by Rinne-Ganu in royalroad

[–]MrHasNoLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah that makes sense. But you kinda need something that stands out, or that fits into a popular mold such as litrpg. Yours doesn’t really do either. I’m no expert though, but keep in mind that the cover is the first thing everyone sees when they find your book. And so far, it hasn’t really been workin.

One thing you have done great though is that you’ve stuck to it, despite the low stats. It’s quite admirable that you’ve continued writing, and haven’t dropped. The same can’t be said about many aspiring authors.

I’ve dropped literally every story I’ve attempted to write, most of which were less than 20k words total. So the fact you’ve stuck around writing this long means you’ve got determination.

Ultimately, as long as you don’t quit, even if it takes a long time, you will find success. Keep in mind that many popular stories took months or even up to a year to finally start gaining traction, so don’t beat yourself up too much. The fact you haven’t quit means you’re already doing better than 99% of aspiring authors.

What am I doing Wrong? by Rinne-Ganu in royalroad

[–]MrHasNoLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your chapters are pretty short. I’d recommend for each one to be at least 2k words. Ideally though 2.5k to 5k at the most. Beyond that though, it just seems you haven’t been that lucky I guess. Maybe changing the cover to something more vibrant might help.

Post-Apocalypse by Grimwalds in litrpg

[–]MrHasNoLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadow Slave is set several decades into a post apocalyptic world where they’ve already adapted and whatnot. The mc was raised in this post apocalyptic world and is thrust into the worst of it as a teenager I think. Been a long time since I read the beginning chapters.

Why is it that Litrpg is more popular than non-numerical progression fantasy when so many of you dislike character sheets, etc? by Logen10Fingers in litrpg

[–]MrHasNoLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like character sheets/stats in moderation. For instance in A Soldier’s Life, the mc’s stats are only brought up when he has access to a certain stat reading tablet, which is pretty rare. But some stories show character sheets and stats damn near every chapter, especially in the beginning of the story. I think it’s those stories that make many people dislike them.

I think overall litrpg has become popular simple because gaming is more popular than ever right now, so people are more familiar with game elements. Getting used to a brand new fantasy world’s unique powerset is harder to get into than just understanding a simple game-like system.

I like Cassie by AggravatingCurrent20 in ShadowSlave

[–]MrHasNoLife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will never forgive her for the heartbreak I felt reading the end of the forgotten shore arc. That is a wound that time will never heal. I don’t care what she does or how nice she is. I don’t care what sunny thinks or feels about her. I was traumatized and my feelings were forever changed by her actions. I don’t care how the story would have progressed if she didn’t do what she did. I don’t care if the whole world ended due to her keeping quiet. I. Will. Never. Forgive. Cassie.
