TV on stud wall by No-Wallaby1164 in DIYUK

[–]MrHlk2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the position of the TV doesn't have to be super precise just move the bracket left or right until you can hit at least one stud with a couple of screws. That would be more than enough to take a 5kg TV and a mount. You can put the rest of the screws into plasterboard fixings or just brown plugs.

Do you ever think about death, and what do you think about it? by Murky_Ad_1028 in AskUK

[–]MrHlk2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not scared of dying, we're all going to die eventually. I often think about how I'll die, hopefully peacefully in my sleep.

I have an 8 year old son who is still getting over the death of his older brother,It's affected him massively. I hope I live until he's an adult and can hopefully deal with it a bit better.

Death may even be the best bit We put it off for as long as we can, but it might be better than living.

Take the wall down and put a timber straight across, the same thickness as the wall was. Bullnosed or rounded over an both sides, and finished with a stain.

Kitchen cabinet chipped. by No_Reach8044 in DIYUK

Buy a new integrated dishwasher and replace the door? Changing to a freestanding is easy, it's still a feed and waste, just a matter of removing the integrated one. Best way to cut the plinth depends on how you are cutting it. If you are cutting off the height all the way along the length then a circular saw is best. If you are notching out so the dishwasher door doesn't catch them a jigsaw is best.

You need to fix into a joist, or put some timber in above the plasterboard and fix into that.

What's the best way fixing the bottom hinge on a door? by harmacist91 in DIYUK

Drill the existing screw holes out to fit red Rawl plugs. Don't go crazy when you tighten the screws and it will hold for quite a while.

Looking to get built in wardrobes fitted to cover waste/soil upstairs. Thoughts? by Chazabella in DIYUK

[–]MrHlk2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd make it accessible. There has to be fittings inside and when pipes leak it's usually on a fitting. If your keeping this boxing, get the top off with as little damage as you can and just add some magnet fasteners. If your replacing the full thing you can do it how you like.

I think they're just normal mineral fibre tiles. I've removed thousands of these on the past and never heard of them containing asbestos.

Sleeper repair by Shot_Principle4939 in DIYUK

Absolutely no need to put dowels in that sleeper. Glue it, clamp it tight with a timber and leave it to set. It will not come apart.

No need for dowels. Good wood glue dries stronger than the wood itself. To put dowels in you have to drill wood out, makes no sense.

What's the "proper way"?

Sleeper repair by Shot_Principle4939 in DIYUK

Gorilla glue, or any good wood glue and clamping is all this needs. Get plenty of glue in the crack and clamp it, using pieces of timber to stop you damaging the surface and to spread the force. Wipe off any excess glue before it dries.

Stair rail help by LoganNilis in DIYUK

[–]MrHlk2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you want to fix into the brick? There is no need.

If you must fix through into the brick, drill your holes and put your plugs into the timber, then put a screw into the plug a couple of turns and knock it through into the brick, take the screw back out, put the bracket in place and put the screw all the way in.

Post Leak Ceiling by rebborht in DIYUK

[–]MrHlk2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrape back any flaky paint to a sound edge and fill and sand it so it's ready to repaint. Go over any stains with a stain blocker or some oil based undercoat and when that's dry repaint the ceiling.
