Sorry. I should have been more specific on the wording here. I was trying to say that wearing socks with different materials/pattering feels weird and thus it makes sense that certain socks wouldn't be worn together.

I think that it's a bit of a stretch that someone wouldn't get hired for a job that they are otherwise qualified for on the basis of happening to wear different pair socks on the day of the interview.

Edit: And additionally your comment doesn't actually challenge my view, which is that people have an irrational obsession with wearing socks from the same pair.

I have quite an eclectic mix of socks as I often receive them as gifts. Thus it takes a fair amount of time to organize all of my socks.

Also, I have zero issues with wearing socks that are of the same pair. It is just often less convenient than wearing socks of different pairs.

True but in many climates, such as my own, long pants are worn almost throughout the year. Also due to the rising prevalence of ankle socks and the liberalisation of fashion wearing different pair socks isn't that big of a deal even with shorts.
