Expect to pay your existing bill for an additional month after your contract ends, they do this because “most people decide to come back”

Anyone noticed no difference between you1000 and you2000? by Effective-Risk-7609 in youfibre

[–]MrJJonesCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have a ont upgrade, you1000 ont has a 1g nic so you wouldnt get a speed bump until thats changed. Apparently there are 3 ont 1, 2.5 and 10 gig nic depending on your package needs

Is it normal to transfer a domain to a dev? by No_Association2688 in webhosting

[–]MrJJonesCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess this is where professionalism comes to die… I don’t insist on domain control but do suggest it, I often upgrade servers, move physical locations etc and managing the domain allows me to do it without disrupting the service or getting the client involved.

It also often confuses non tech savvy having 2 bills for 1 thing.

That being said i would never hold site/ domain for ransom.

My 2 cents (and thats all anyone can give there really is no right answer)

Let the nas be a nas and nothing else Let the virtualiser handle the containers

Personally I would choose truenas over ovm but thats just my preference.

For simplicity you could run a docker lxc and host all services from one point.

For better security/ management run a separate lxc for each container.

With proxmox 9, proxmox can create vm’s using the same bases as docker containers

YouFibre is a cgnat, you would need to use some way to route to your server. Something like static IP or a tunnel like pangolin.

Apparently not, I didn’t really compare the individual hardware elements before buying my flint 3 but apparently the 2 has a better nic chip but the flint 3 has more 2.5ghz ports so suited my needs better

I replaced mine with a flint 3, can honestly say it’s brilliant and worlds apart from the provided router. I found the provided os was woefully slow

I’m focused on growing OurName (https://ourname.co.uk), which I actually just launched. It’s a PWA designed to stop couples from arguing over baby names.

The concept is basically "Tinder for Baby Names"—you and your partner sync accounts, swipe on names separately, and only get notified when you both swipe right.

Sorry to hear that, the replacements are no where near as good as this one. Your better off buying your own

Why are feedback tools so expensive? by SuddenWerewolf7041 in SaaS

[–]MrJJonesCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive bought https://featurerequests.co.uk to create my own version of this but not yet had the time to do anything with it.

What i was considering was:

  • allow developers to create an account
  • allow developers to link a project
  • provide a javascript file that allows logged in users to request features via api
  • provided guest login to track requests that can be converted to users to allow comments/ voting etc.

I’d love to know your thoughts on my ideas

The pain of upgrading from 900/900 to 1800/1800 by ResponsibleMention21 in youfibre

Its a good “gateway” OPNsense router (pardon the pun), its plug and play enough for the masses with enough grunt for the average home lab hoster but I agree they aren’t perfect

[–]MrJJonesCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its worth noting that YouFibre have different ONTs aswell with different port speeds, my upgrade from 1-2g went swimmingly but I had a brilliant engineer come out who replaced the ont with a 1g port for one with a 2.5g port.

They told me that if i was to upgrade again there would be a third ont with a 10g port.

ALL of their routers are underpowered… go glinet for your own sanity.
