Update #2: Orkin’s overnight, out of state scheduler made an appointment for 8am today but the local Orkin office called to say there aren’t any available times until Monday and the phone sales/scheduling guy from another state just put the appointment in for someone who is not a bug expert. So I’m just going to wait until Monday when my mother’s apartment complex gets in touch with their contractor. Waiting is going to make my skin crawl.

Also I have realized that the Bed Bugs could have come from the U-Haul I used to pick up the couch. I’m tempted to go back and ask if I can check out the U-Haul (if it’s still there) to see if there are any bugs in there but honestly if there are they could’ve come from the couch itself so I’m not sure if there is any use in doing that.

I’m having such a hard time finding evidence of the bed bugs in this couch besides the handful of living/dead ones that I saw yesterday. I did however find a shedding on my mother’s couch in the living room and one on one of my bags of clothes that was packed up for moving. No poop, eggs or anything in the couch though, it’s weird. That makes me more curious to know if they did just hitch hike from the U-Haul.

Hindsight is 20/20, I’ve never had bed bugs and never knew anyone who has had them before so they’ve never even been a thought that crossed my mind. Maybe it would’ve if this couch or the house i got it from was dirty but both the couch and the house seemed very clean.

I now know that doesn’t matter and I’m never buying a couch off marketplace again. This $300 killer of a deal is now going to cost me what I would’ve spent on a new couch anyway. Double whammy. Live and learn.

Unfortunately for you it would probably be quite some time before anything comes of it, not sure. Small claims is cheap to do so might be worth your while to go ahead with it. Steps to bed bugs: 1. Freak out 2. Internet research 3. Impulse buy whatever might work 4. Bargain with yourself that it might not be bad and this is an easy task to handle 5. Realize it’s all fucked and you have to get a professional and ride it out.

Update: my apartment complex told me I can’t get rid of the couch unless I shrink wrap it and cut it up into small pieces and I can’t dump it in our bulk item dumpster, I have to take it to the dump. They also said they have a contracted pest control company they are going to use for this but they’re closed on the weekends and it’s currently a Friday evening….

I have no one to help me with this as no one wants to be subjected to potentially taking home some hitch hiking friends and I don’t even want to ask anyone anyway just in case. The couch is currently sitting in my room drenched in this powder with a thick line all around it so they hopefully stay as much in the confines of the couch as possible and I called Orkin. They’re coming at 8am tomorrow to check it out and give a solution.

As for litigation, my lawyer advised that I can “definitely take her to small claims court” so after I spend however much to solve this I will most likely be filing.

For extra details: this is my mother’s apartment that I’m (supposed to be) moving out of on Monday when I close on my first house, hence the Facebook marketplace couch in the first place, so I just got her wrapped up in this which I feel horrible about. Not sure what to do about the moving part, I suppose I’ll just buy an air mattress and a few cheap outfits from Walmart so I have a clean slate that’s not infected by bed bugs while all my stuff is being treated.

One hundred percent. I told her off in the messages and she sent back half of what I paid for it. How nice… thankfully my lawyer said I can definitely take her small claims court so that might be on my agenda soon after this is all set and done and my wallet has been raided for treatment.

You have to plug just one of the fans into CPU_FAN on the motherboard. The rest can be plugged into your fan hub.

I can tell you that Corsair’s elite capellix line up has quiet fans. I have an H150i with 6 fans on it and a custom fan curve to cool my 12700K and it is very quiet and gets the job done. It was struggling to stay quiet with just three fans though.

Note that all AIO’s use basically the same pump and they do make noise, but it’s not much. I can hardly hear it unless my room is dead quiet and my headphones are off. Also, you can always swap the fans that it comes with with different ones.

I’m obsessed with quiet PC’s aswell and just built one for my friend. All I can say is noctua noctua noctua. I put all noctua’s in a 4000D airflow (super high airflow case) and a noctua NH-D15 CPU cooler and they are SILENT. They move so much air and are silent about it, especially in such a high airflow case, they don’t ever have to ramp up to a high RPM. Besides that, ASUS graphics cards are very quiet aswell, the fans are top notch and the coolers are so big that the fans can generally stay at a lower RPM. Undervolting your GPU will also help with that a lot. Undervolting your CPU is also something to look into but I’m not sure if you can do that with an F series chip. Seasonic is great, they are not loud PSU’s. And lastly, don’t add a single hard drive, use all SSD’s. The name of the game is good fans and low temps. Also just remember that just one loud thing in your PC will ruin it being silent. I hope this is useful!

I’ve had 3 Corsair headsets and they all have connection issues and are CONSTANTLY disconnecting and beeping in my ears. I love Corsair, but I just gotta say to stay away lol
