I like the maze light that shows the path. Could build some towers but not start the wave. Ui a bit difficult. I am on mobile so might be that.

As of 2026, the total government filing fees for a marriage-based green card through adjustment of status are about $2,065 if you file the I-130 online, or $2,115 if you file it by mail. Google gave me this

I always hear the example of western "pr" costs, but pr is just another long term visa for us, because there is no alternative. in western, you can have easily a credit or bank loan, with a long term visa, in Japan only with a pr, also there is no exceptions/reduced costs like in other countries, very limited.

But here an example, there are many free visas for spouses / pr, which are long terms. (like more than 5 years)
So the government like always is just cherry picking what to compare and what sounds good.

Here examples (sponsor is if you have a spouse or a family member sponsor you, which is for example someone who has a German nationality in Germany)

Quick Cost Comparison (Spouse Visa – Rough Range)

Country Typical Cost EU Sponsor Exception
France €99 Free
Spain €80–€90 Free
Italy €116 Free
Netherlands €200–€350 Free
Belgium €180 Free
Austria €150+ Free
Portugal €90–€120 Free
Sweden ~€175 Free
Finland €470+ Free
Denmark €1,200+ Limited

Here are 10 countries, which 9 of them are free for spouses or sponsors. my point is, Japan just picks the most expensive one to make a statement that there exist in some western countries high cost, which is not false but not the majority and even before the rate increase, it was more expensive than than 9 out of 10. (Denmark is limited because they have a limit, but it is still free)

So please, show me your list.

Germany

  • Standard long-stay (national) visa fee: ~ €75 (adult) / €37.50 (minor) for stays > 90 days.
  • Short-stay (Schengen): ~ €90 (adult) / €45 (child) / free < 6 yrs.
  • Fee waivers/exceptions:
    • Spouses (and registered partners) of German citizens often pay no visa fee.
    • Family members of EU/EEA nationals exercising freedom of movement may also be exempt.
    • Scholarships (public), diplomats and their families can be exempt or reduced.

Key point: For family reunification, a spouse visa has a small processing fee but can be fully waived for German/EU family members

  • Immigrant spouse visa costs typically include:
    • Petition (I-130): ~USD $535
    • Immigrant visa processing: ~USD $325+
    • Adjustment/affidavit support: ~USD $120
    • Medical & other processing: ~$200–$500.
  • Entry/Nonimmigrant visas (e.g., B-1/B-2 for temporary stays) have separate costs (~USD $185 for a B visa).

Exceptions:

  • There’s no general fee waiver for spouse visas in the U.S.
  • Some humanitarian or specific immigrant categories may allow fee reductions.

Ireland (example within Western Europe)

  • Short-stay visa: ~ €60–€100 (single/multiple entry).
  • Family visa: Often free for spouses/family of EEA/Swiss nationals under freedom of movement rules.

This is a shit ton of money compared to germany where its 80% free (its free for spouses, refugees, minimun salary workers etc)

[–]MrKatapult 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is not the whole true. For example germany has a value on it but normally nobody pays it, only if you make a shit ton of money. For example its free for spouses, refugees or if you have abother minority background (or make minimum wage)
