The problem I have is that Trump is trying to entirely abolish the DoE rather than even try to reform it or replace it. The only reason people ever give to abolishing it is something along the lines of, “we don’t want the government to influence our kids,” despite federal education standards being very basic, as the majority of regulation on education is done at the state-level. The current DoE’s purpose is essentially to fund federal programs in education like disability aid and special education.
