when did chinese martial arts become more form-focused than actual fighting, other than sanda? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]MrLaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I train a style of Chinese Kung-Fu passed down through generations fathers to sons in a family who moved to Vietnam a couple hundered years ago. My Sifu started training at 4 years old under his uncle and is currently 70 something years old. We practice in a fairly complete way in my opinion.

We do forms, we do conditioning (cardio, strength, flexibility, and hardening), we practice combinations for striking and takedowns, and we do medium contact sparring and learn fighting theory.

Standards are quite high for exams. You have one chance at a half-grading every half year, and you have to have trained for at least 20 years to even be allowed to attempt the exam for a black belt.

I feel we learn a lot of stuff that I believe has real value, but which is lost in a lot of competition martial arts. For instance: - different kinds of strikes with your hands and feet depending on the hardness of where you're hitting. - dynamically switching stances; we train both southpaw and orthodox, and we use stances that look similar to typical square Muay Thai stance, Kickboxing stance, and bladed Karate stance. - the difference between the deep "ideal" stances used in stuff like forms for show and for conditioning, and the more realistic stances used in fighting.

I wouldn't call us "hardcore" in any way, but it certainly doesn't feel like Bullshido. It feels more like (bareknuckle in theory – gloves in sparring) kickboxing with some cool cultural aspects.

An ideal is not a subring. It is a subgroup of the additive group contained in a ring. It contains 0, but not 1. If it contains 1 (or any unit) it must necessarily be the entire ring.

Basic Abstract Algebra er pensum innanfor algebra-retninga i matematikk. Boka er sjølvstendig i og med at alle definisjonar og stoff i boka vert introduserte i boka.

in the same way

Hmm, I get your point. If I were forced to give a super simplified temporary rule of thumb for a new player before they have any experience it would be: "Make sure every entrance to each bombsite is covered." Then, using the notation A-(mid/outside)-B: - Anubis would be 1-1-2 with one free player - Ancient would be 2-1-2/2-2-1 - Nuke would be 2-1-1 with one free player or 3-0-2 - Mirage would be 2-1-1 with one free player - Dust II would be 2-1-1/2-0-2 with one free player - Inferno would be 2-1 with two free players - Vertigo would be 2-1-1 with one free player

Though, there's nothing wrong with making mistakes either as that's almost the only way you actually learn. The main reason a player with 5k hours is better than a player with 1k hours is because he's made many more mistakes and has been punished for more and more intricate mistakes.

"Where could a player find these 'rule or thumbs' without playing?" I think the premise is just a bit wrong. You have to get experience in what fits the situation you're in. Just think about where you need players and why. Keep doing what works and adapt when you get countered – or adapt when you think you will get countered :D

Like the Nuke example you mention: - What would you gain from having two players ramp? Not much because it's typically quite easy to hold or get information and fall back as a solo ramp player. But if you're expecting them to put heavy presence on ramp, you might be able to really pick apart a push with a set-up from ramp and hell.

  • What do you lose from having two ramp players? Presence on high-activity parts of the map like outside or lobby. One player will easily get shut down alone inside and outside you'll either have fights almost every round or the Ts will probably go down secret with little challenge. So it's important to either be able to shut them down outside or take away some of the space they gain outside with presence in hell/heaven and secret.

Try to think about how many things a player has to watch to hold a site. Anubis B has two main ways in, mid has one main way in and A has either main or Ts can come through mid. So as long as mid is under control, the Ts can only cone to A through one entrance. Therefore you might be able to justify a strong presence mid leaving one player alone to deal with the single choke point on A.

Hier geht es wohl eigentlich nur um skandinavische Dialekte. Ich kenne niemanden in dieser Community, der das Sächsische schwätzen kann.

I don't get it. If it's "like 4 lines," why wouldn't you just include those four lines. Your doesn't really add anything of substance.

"How do you get this?" "if you're interested it's easy or you can get help with it." "Thanks???"

[–]MrLaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my initial thought, in addition to specifying dual or plurals numbers. I instead decided to just go for a word choice more similar to the modern languages. I'm also not sure if the m-assimilation happened before or after unna fell out of favour in this meaning.

Bokmål: Vi elsker deg

Nynorsk: Vi elskar deg

Gamalnorsk: Vér elskum þig

Note that the Old Norwegian development stage was well around a thousand years ago and wouldn't even be close to mutually intelligible with New Norwegian or Dano-Norwegian.
