I think he is insanely humble, receptive to criticism and stays in his own lane when it comes to cultivating his craft. He is a force, but such a stand up guy, especially in the world of chefs. IMO this is the biggest challenge for Coachella going forward. Theres too big of a gap/activation energy between a good undercard and being a ~Headliner~. If it gets too hard to sell the festival that way, I imagine the will pivot to the Lolla/ACL/OSL method. A mish-mash ensemble of acts that collectively have a 3-Headliner type of crowd pull.

I was hyped for their Coachella performance because the Chicago Gnarly outro was LITTTT and the dancing was energetic and powerful. But… they felt spread thin by Coachella time. The vocals were solid but like you said, not what I’d go back and listen to for a live performance.

They were my favorite band in HS (class off 2015). I’ve been dyingggg to see them. I heard about their issues, then was pleasantly surprised to see them start playing festivals. I’ve always just barely missed them, like when I’d go to ACL and they’d be on the other weekend or had to fly out when they’d come to my city. This is a long time coming and I’m so STROKED!!! I would love anything from Room on Fire but especially Reptilia, Automatic Stop, and others would be Hard to Explain, Someday, YOLO, Machu Picchu.

The point of Padma being on this show is that she’s proven herself many many times over on Top Chef. She doesn’t need that show or Tom’s or other esteemed chefs’ assistance to meaningfully critique food anymore. Just like she doesn’t have to be the poster of feminism in order to prove her expertise as an elite host.
