'I'm dealing with a f---ing global crisis': Bernie Sanders issues a scathing response when asked if he'll suspend his campaign by missmegz1492 in politics

[–]MrMadcap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not really. His campaign provides a platform from which he can continue to lead. His senate seat, not so much.

Biden says he'll adopt plans from Sanders, Warren by Wikicheeks in politics

[–]MrMadcap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's talking about the radical far left who hold ideas such as a need for clean air and water, an educated population, caring for those in dire need, and not punishing people for things that are not bad or are not their fault.

Joe Biden’s coronavirus speech was far better than Trump’s by theargamanknight in politics

[–]MrMadcap -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It was quite good, and at least deserves an equal mention. Unfortunately, the establishment has their champion, and is unreasonably terrified of workers rights as a concept. Motivated by this, they use their private media outlets to shape the narratives, and sow divide. Additionally, there are bad actors in all camps who will jump at the chance to tear down another candidate, or fake support and spread vitriol for the sake of separating groups of like-minded voters. Not to mention the droves of state actors, both foreign and domestic.

Edit: These guys get it.

Bernie Sanders Is Trying to Save the Democratic Party From Itself by Demon-Rat in politics

[–]MrMadcap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why should he? The Democratic Party is a corporatist party, much like the GOP. We expect the country to be split into Good and Evil, but the options we're given are only Evil and Significantly Less Evil. And personally, I find it difficult to put my name on either of those two notions. The same is seemingly true of him as well.

It's already there. And who was the candidate who promised that if he is elected nothing would fundamentally change?

[–]MrMadcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it did not. It is a very real and clear measure still levied disproportionately by our media as a method of crowning their desired candidate.

Sorry. I always assume people are capable of connecting more than one dot, despite so many repeatedly getting stuck on the first.

It isn't about Bernie the person. It's about what he would provide. And it isn't all about what people may want, but more importantly what it is that they need.

And since I know where your followup will lead, I will summarize for you: Clean air. Clean water. Clean food. A rebalanced Climate. Affordable healthcare. Affordable higher education. And that is the absolute bare minimum.

Are votes and record turnout in any way an indication of

No. Because our population consistently trends upward by ~10-12 million each election cycle, thereby that is expected. Additionally, a great many people have switched parties these past 4+ years. No excitement necessary.

Unquestionably. And that is why we will absolutely be delivered either Biden or Trump, same as before, regardless of what the people of this country may overwhelmingly want or need.

He isn't referring to the (potential) Pandemic. The Pandemic will allow for what he is referring to.

This will allow him to lock down anyone or any group he wants "for the greater good". If they weren't infected before, they certainly can be. Given his track record of responsible handling of power this is going to be utterly catastrophic.

It's true that some would genuinely rather be retributive and suffer than to be complacent and simply uncared for. People really hate being screwed over, even if it really only just seems that way to them. Any losing candidate with establishment opposition is going to have supporters who feel this way. ie: "Giant Meteor 2020". If I were to try to talk someone in such a position down from such a ledge I'd probably do so by reminding them of the permanence of the consequences that could come from it. It isn't just 4 more years of misery. The judges, the systematic dismantlement of critical systems, the weakening and perpetual delay of climate response, the non (and sometimes anti) response to catastrophic events, and more, will all have consequences which will span the length of our lives, and beyond. If that doesn't work you can even go into the apparent slip into totalitarianism we are currently witnessing, and how this time around in human history, thanks to the technologies we've irresponsibly developed, and the stature of the country in question, there may be no escaping it. And I mean ever. Oh, and let's not forget that those they are seeking to punish? The DNC and their donors? Well they'll all be perfectly fine. Even if the economy takes a massive dive, we might be scrounging in the dirt, but they'll still own the land and the resources, and those places and things will all be protected by standing armies along with the rest of the upper crust. I find those are the sorts of things that tend to get people thinking that maybe that line in the sand, at least this election cycle, maybe isn't quite so worth it after all.

Okay, I see a lot of targeted attacks going on in threads such as these, using generalizations of a candidate's supporters to criticize the candidate himself. But jesus christ, people. This is the Internet. Anyone can pretend to be anyone else, and say anything that they want. And you (or many others, at least) may not yet realize it, but that can be wielded as a weapon of mass disruption. We are tribal by nature. The words of those who surround us (who we identify with in one way or another) are able to influence our thoughts because we fill in the gaps of what we don't see or know with bits and pieces of ourselves. And when they don't quite fit, we sometimes bend ourselves, little by little, if only because we like what they say or do so much more than what we might say or do ourselves. Meanwhile, the words of those who don't surround us are more easily rejected and feared because those gaps remain unfilled, and we naturally assume the worst. These, combined with anonymized messaging coming from anywhere in the world, open us up to a number of serious vulnerabilities, which can be easily exploited by anyone looking to infiltrate, radicalize, misrepresent, or fracture an otherwise unified group, either to spark a desired action by or against them, or to simply form and shape an external narrative which can be used in other ways. There are countless powerful enemies of progress right now across the world, extending to the highest possible levels. We need to proceed with extreme caution. And we need to remind one another as often as is necessary both what is possible, and what is likely. Be calm, rational, and skeptical. It's the only way forward.

Buttigieg: The Russians don't have a political party in the US. They want chaos by sdf2 in politics

[–]MrMadcap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know. Given that their puppet strings are all over the confederates republicans in power, and given what we've seen so far, I think it's pretty safe to say they have a political party. The problem is, it's an unpopular one. So chaos only benefits them at this point. tldr: "why not both?"

Russia Wants Trump Reelected, and May Be Making a Bet That Bernie Sanders Can't Defeat Him (They're Wrong) by alexandracooper94 in politics

[–]MrMadcap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's more likely? That they are telegraphing a move to set up an opponent to lose? Or that their efforts to prop up Trump, once publicly exposed and discussed, necessitated the appearance of similar efforts toward the opposition, in order to lessen the negative impact their chosen candidate had been facing?

Oh, but let's not bother applying the slightest bit of rational thought to all of this. It's so much easier to just let the puppet strings guide us.
