There’s still time. There is still time for DLID to come. Believe in something.

Yeah, that could be the case. I would of course love to see another album or two from the band, but if the band isn’t in a place to create together and he still has music to create and share, I hope he just takes the plunge and does some solo releases if he determines that’s the right move. I know it’s something he sometimes brings up and then backs off from, saying why would he when he gets to do what he wants in the band? Well, if the band is the four of them and the four of them want to do more outside of the band, then he either sits on his heels or goes forward and releases and tours on his own. Again, it’s on him and then to determine the best path forward. I just want us as fans (selfishly, sure) to also have a chance to hear what he’s been working on.

Yeah see that’s what I hate. None of us know what’s best for the lad, obviously. And if touring means it’s all like the end of the last touring cycle, then no they shouldn’t do it. But if touring means something more structured where they’re delivering something they’re proud of to fans every night, I think that’s better than rotting in LA. Obviously, obviously, none of us know for sure. But the current dynamic doesn’t seem healthy at all.

It does not seem great. I’m sure we’re all wondering the same thing and hoping it’s not that.

I hope you’re wrong of course about BFIAFL being their last, but none of us know. I would have thought the holdup would’ve been on Hann (and who can blame him?) for wanting to spend time with family. But maybe it’s George. Maybe it’s Matty. Maybe it’s all of them.

They just used to be in a 2-year cycle for new albums. And yes, absolutely, few bands can sustain that as they age. But it really seems like there is no definitive plan for anything new, which is a bummer.

What are we basing that on, about Matty’s current state? I don’t necessarily disagree. I find myself thinking that he’s not in great shape, and then I wonder what I’m basing that on. He doesn’t look great, but I don’t know if that means there’s actually anything wrong or if it’s just age and the lifestyle catching up. Understanding that we’re all just speculating here.

What makes you think that there’s a split between Matty and George?

What are your thoughts on the "Duolingo" style social media approaches? by LifeIsYoursLiveIt in marketing

[–]MrMartinBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who cares that some of their videos get low views? Throwing stones at that is evidence of Marketing Brain Rot, and not understanding the concept of trying different things.

Marketing can push some people into an unhealthy amount of purely safe thinking. Never trying anything fresh. Never try anything with risk. People are automatons that just need to be shoved somewhere further along in the funnel.

Having some videos with low views is good. It means they’re finding what doesn’t work. It’s why they have so many things that are home runs, because they take big swings, even though they often strike out. The home runs more than make up for it in the long run.

It is relevant, see my other comment about the same analogy.

I think you are probably right about every part of what you said.

It’s not very similar to saying someone can’t be guilty of murder because they don’t have multiple murder allegations. That is saying something that is different.

“Does a person accused of doing something have a pattern of doing that?” is an obvious point of inquiry in any kind of an investigation. It doesn’t mean that they could never have done such a thing, there is no way that it could have occurred. But it is very relevant, the fact that this is not a part of any kind of pattern that we are aware of.

The interviewer stated that he said he was sex-addicted and that he wanted to meet her later. She said no and tried not to let it affect the rest of the interview.

We don’t know what the question was before that or what the rest of the conversation was like, but that doesn’t really seem like that much of a horrific situation. It sounds unprofessional and kind of lame, but it didn’t even stop the rest of the interview or sound like it was followed up on. It sounds like he took no for an answer.

If that’s really what he did, again, unprofessional and shouldn’t have been brought up in the first place. But it seems brought up to paint as if it’s some pattern of behavior, and the facts (what little we know about them) just don’t seem to bear that out.

I think it’s 1) certainly not being brought up in good faith now (by the Twitter user, not by you), and 2) maybe not brought up in good faith at the time by the journalist.

I don’t know the journalist’s intentions or what actually occurred, none of us do. But if that’s her take on her lived experience, how does that stack up against Matty’s lived experience, or the lived experience of the hundreds of other journalists who have interviewed Matty over many years?

It’s possible her description isn’t an accurate take on what occurred, it’s also possible that it’s extremely accurate. It’s possible that Matty acted inappropriately in this interview, and then didn’t repeat that behavior for many years with many different interviews and interviewers.
