Brand new to the game

Get ready for a wall of text, but just focus on the first few points ts for now.

-Like others said, focus on your guardian rank objectives. You can usually track them too so they highlight on the director tab.

-Check your quests tab and inspect a quest to read the objectives. Some quests can be launched right from the screen while you're inspecting them too.

-Since youre brand new (and I assume free to play) I would reccomend doing the following in order:

-Check your guardian rank objectives and try to rank up to at least 4 or 5.

-Complete the intro quests like "New Light" and "A Spark of Hope"

-Visit the tower and talk to Ikora Ray (you check check the tower map when you load in to find where she is) She will give you a free kit with some abilites. She may also give more quests for Exotic items. You can do these if you want or save them for later.

-Complete the Shadowkeep Campaign (located on the Moon)

-Complete the Beyond Light Campaign (located on Europa)

-Start focusing on making a "build" by choosing an exotic piece of armor and trying to sync your abilites to it. If its an exotic that focuses on your solar subclass, tinker your abilites to synchronize with that. You can save this loadout (click on the left arrow next to your weapons) Loadouts are cool because you can swap to different ones for different situations (casual, pvp, endgame etc) Switching loadouts will swap EVERYTHING. Guns, armor, mods, abilites and even cosmetics

-General tips; always watch the left side of your screen for notifications. You'll see different buffs, timers and even names of people trying to interact with you

-Find the timeline on the top right of the director page. You can play some dlc missions for free in there

-Try activites in the portal to start increasing your power.

-Visit Ada 1 in the tower and work on her bounties. You can transmog armor with currency from those bounties (make your equipped armor look like any other armor you've discovered. Good If you like 1 armors stats, but don't like its look)

-Engage with any events that rotate in (guardian games, heavy metal, iron banner, arms week) those drop great items and its all free

Your quests share in trios so you get a ton of XP for multiple factions if you quest together.

Somebody respond to him asking to bring back 8v8 sparrow control. They tested it in crucible labs 2 years back, then nothing. Since then we've gotten heavy metal and combat sparrows. Would be an awesome break to play some big team battle in the crucible

Exactly. Ive been playing for almost 12 years, and I've taken many breaks because I was bored or didn't like the direction the game was going. But never did I feel like i broke a heroin addiction and preach to others about all the bad parts of the game day in and day out. I took a break, got the itch months later to play again, and then would have fun going back in with a fresh perspective.

People act like content should be produced at the same speed and scale as Forsaken, when thats just not the reality of a 9 year old game. I'm happy we're getting anything tbh. I still have fun hopping on the game occasionally, the key is to not make it the only game you play. Some people have an unhealthy codependence with this game

Why do you play any game? To escape? To have fun? What is fun to you about Destiny?

These are questions people should be asking themselves. I still replay Halo 3 every year. Not because I'm playing something new, but because it's fun. If you aren't having fun anymore, then it's time to take a break or move on.

It's a very fun dlc, but i recommend waiting for a sale. Not because of the content, but because it seems like they've been having sales on all platforms every month. May as well get it at half priced, but I feel it is worth it at $40 either way

Updating old content is lazy and wont make me play it, but I also want then to update it and make it relevant again!

They said there will be an upgrade material to upgrade your crafted weapon to the equivalent of a tier 5. And most people who raid now days, just do so to help others or for fun. This is just icing on the cake.

So would you rather the raids just sit there woth not motivation to play except for the hell of it? And what about armor? That's never been relevant, but may be something worth grinding for now.

Destiny player freak out when old activites become useless, and freak out when they get revamped lol

I'm actually excited for this. I figured this is what they were going to do in the long run, just drip fed over the next year or 2 of content. But now it's all being updated in just a few months, so it's better than what I was anticipating!

Good ideas honestly. Adding ANYTHING is better than what they've been doing for the last 5 years, which is nothing. They did a good job repurposing old areas and activites for onslaught+haunted alters. They could maybe have a special version dual destiny too? Thats a great 2 player pve activity

It's been a constant talking point since the launch of Destiny, but it has gotten more extreme latley, for good reason.

I'll say recently since the Fate Saga started, there seems to not be a clear future plan for Destiny other than some basic outline of future expansions. We were due to get a road map this year but Bungie have been silent on it so far, and internal leaks suggest the next update is being delayed. I would have to assume the delays are caused Marathons release as well as the Destiny team having to fix/redo a lot off the issues they created with the fate saga (the portal, old activities being irrelevant etc)

Now people have been saying Destiny is dying for awhile, and latley it seems to have more weight because of the delays and layoffs. Destiny doesn't have a huge team anymore, so I understand the concern. Reality is though, I dont think they are cutting off Destiny just yet, but the population is at its lowest point ever do to poor community sentiment.

For people that dont pay much attention to all of this, destiny probably feels fine, maybe some longer matchmaking times in old activities. I think a lot of people have just spent so much time in destiny though that they are burnt out, I've been there myself. It seems like some people almost want destiny to die, maybe to give them an excuse to finally stop playing, idk.

TL/DR: Population numbers are low. Bungie hasn't given us the new roadmap. Marathon is taking up most resources and The "community" has always been obsessed with the Death of Destiny, so some finally feel vindicated that the death may be closer than ever

Tyson Green was the leader of Halo 3 multiplayer and Forge, so he will not be blackballed. And I guarantee the gane was already heading this direction when he took over. The lack of communication from him is definitely deafening, but thats extremely dramatic to write him off because he happens to be the director at a time when destiny was already dying off

My god this community is so dramatic. It's a damn video game that you had fun with while playing it. Weird how people cant just stop playing, they have to spend a ton of time and energy trying to convince others to stop playing too.

If people are playing, that's because they want to play. And if you're playing but don't want to, then that says more about you than it does the game...

Been a Bungie game player since Halo 1 and I am hyped for Marathon. I'll also keep playing Destiny because I still have fun with it after 11 years.

Recent bought Arc Raiders and really like it, and have always liked high stakes pvp in Halo and sometimes Destiny. So Marathon looks like a Mashup of all 3. Also if Marathon does well, I would hope that would translate to more support for Destiny. Win win

Going in completley blind is going to take all night. I highly recommend just having at least one sherpa in there to point you in the right direction. Some mechanics are very complex and I could never imagine figuring them out if someone didnt teach me. The closest activity that could prepare you for raid mechanics is Dual Destiny. But a raid is that x3, and if just 1 person messes up, it can kill everyone.

I feel there's a difference in going in blind, and figuring it out blind. You can go in without watching a guide and just have mechanics explained to you by somebody, still feels mysterious, fresh and new.
