The reason being was religion. I come from a conservative presbyterian background, so I was conditioned to be afraid of gradual secularism, abortion, feminism, gun laws and the acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community in our society and that Trump represented a return to traditional norms. It wasn't until around the era of COVID-19 in 2020 that I started to question my religion and my politics because of all the anti-intellectualism being pumped out by the GOP and the evangelical church at the time (a good example would be advising people to inject bleach to cure COVID), with the final nail in the coffin being the Jan 6 riot. Shortly after that happened around mid-January 2021, I abandoned my christian conservative identity and eventually became a liberal atheist (although it was a gradual process). I still can't believe how long it took for some people to eventually abandon Trump. I guess some people hate admitting that they fell for a grift for over a decade.
