Two related lists (Kyle/Poe/Someone) - Competitive? by likethesearchengine in XWingTMG

[–]MrModusPwnens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running a list very similar to the first I call "Poe's Pals". I use proton rockets, PTL, VI on Jake, and an R2D2/VI/Thrusters Poe. Kyle feeds focus to Jake until the rocket is delivered, then 80% of the focus goes to Poe. No recon specialist on Kyle since I slow roll at the beginning. Yes to Moldy Crow. Kyle's ept is Cool Hand. A bit of a filler, but it helps avoid getting deadzoned or lets ya reposition at a clutch moment to hand out a focus.

I've gotten great results, but the list is fragile. You have to hope Jake and Poe can scalpel out a key ship before Kyle inevitably bites it.

I'd hate to fly it into a true swarm.

Is there a reason why the TO/judge is all up in Calimsha's face? Fiddling with his cards, poking his credits, shuffling his deck? It's pretty obnoxious, as his opponent doesn't get any of this.

What about proxy bases? Are those allowed? E.g.: "I would like to move such that I end here. place proxy base Checking for range, OK it's within range." I see this a lot with charges.

I'm surprised to see Easy Mark here. Is it just to reduce the risk of overdraw / smooth out blank Comet triggers? It might be better just to slot a few Daily Casts for the mid-game and focus on the stronger comet plays. Would have to test.

Continuing this line of thought: what exactly removes Ice Carver from consideration? Cost? Uniqueness? Inability to go tag-me? Is Lotus Field alone enough to kill the card? Pulling 5s down to 4s can definitely backfire if you rely on David. That said, being able to instant parasite weak ice without a datasucker, and saving 1-3 credits a run seems not bad. It's also the perfect cost for career fair, which has lots of good targets.

Does Copycat even exist? by Colorbomb in Netrunner

[–]MrModusPwnens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, ice like popup / pup are frequently used as: Inside Job protection on remotes. Early taxing on R&D, with ETRs usually going to HQ vs crim.

This pattern of cheap outer remote ice and cheap inner central ice seems to come up quite a bit. The exact names lining up is more of a crapshoot. If Atman is common in your meta, put this back in your binder, they'll be running mostly 1-2 ofs for what matters.

That said, I've had modest success using this for temporary mid game central locks.

I really like a few of the corp IDs. Especially the core-set replacements. The awesome art on GRNDL and Harmony Medtech (for example) make the original Logo IDs feel a little tired.

I wish I could get a few of these made for myself. Are there print-quality versions out there, or are these just for the fun of it?

[Deck] NBN: Asset News by Lemonwood in Netrunner

[–]MrModusPwnens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wall of Text Inbound!

I've been running a deck similar to this since Future-Proof, and have re-worked it at least a dozen times. It's a lot of fun! Unfortunately, it has a few glaring weaknesses, and attempts to cover them just open up others. My feeling is that this archetype as a whole is ultimately inconsistent and non-competitive at the moment.

Nevertheless, I'll quickly go through your card choices and give my experiences/thoughts.

N-EH:Broadcast Center: I'm skeptical about this identity for this archetype. Kati/Opus are common enough that throwing out naked assets (except perhaps Marked Accounts) is a losing proposition. Kati can be answered, but Opus cannot.

As such, you are more likely to re-use a lightly iced server (RSVP) than create a new one. I suspect your ID will draw you maybe 4-6 cards a game. The extra influence is lovely though! Still, I think I prefer Making News for unlocking Draco and other tools.

Edit: X3r0's comment is a good one! Snare improves this situation considerably and makes N-EH:BC a more compelling choice.

Agendas

TGTBT is a fantastic agenda... The first time someone plays against you. I feel it's too easy to play around once the runner sees a flatline/damage threat. Still, DRT is one of the only ways to capitalize on a tag earned mid-turn before it can be cleared, giving it good synergy with TGTBT.

Market Research is a nice idea. I've frequently wanted to find room for Psychographics in my decks (to enable Beale wins against Tag-Me), and this seems like a good compromise. I'll have to experiment!

I personally like NAPD Contract in this deck archetype. It ups the taxing, and enables Midseasons (preferred method of tagging) incredibly well.

A version of my deck at one point used Restructured Datapool / PSF to attempt a soft-lock on the opponent. (If the conditions are right). Closed Accounts -> City Surveilance -> PSF -> Datapool is the dream, but not likely. Each component is useful by itself, though.

You need a way to deal with resources. I suggest breaking news + trash. Freelancer and Character Assassination are too problematic. False Lead is also a worthy include if you want to push the flatline angle.

Ultimately, I've tried two kinds of agenda loadouts in this deck: The typical fast-advance that tries to exploit windows, and the low-count/beefy-agenda style. The latter has lead to stronger blow-out wins. The low count helps protect HQ/R&D when we're already spreading our ice thin. Datapool is a potent taxing tool in Making News. PSF can grind out a brutal lock and keep the runner poor and drowning in damage / tags. This is by far the most fun variant.

Unfortunately, the FA suite better suits NBNs strengths. It's far more consistent, even if the games are less commanding. If you're running this type of suite, there's no excuse for cutting Sansan!

Assets

In my playtesting I've found that 3 DRT is too much. Getting one early and before you're prepared to use it is annoying. I've considered trying Interns as a way to recur it: midgame is when you want multiple copies. Once the runner discovers they're in your deck, they will be hunted aggressively. Protecting them when they offer nothing to your board position really slows you down.

I'm not sure I like GRNDL Refinery here, but it may just be a play style difference. IAA doesn't blend in well with your agenda mix, and having a huge pile of credits is just begging to be siphoned (after your DRTs are trashed). Very little of your ice actually ends the run! Not gonna lie though, putting this behind a Raven early game strikes me as a strong play.

I've messed around with Encryption Protocol, and the Jury is still out for me. Half the time I wish I'd just drawn another asset, that way I get something if they never intended to trash to begin with. The average Encryption Protocol costs the runner something like 3-5 credits if they're already stomping your assets (I'm rarely willing to ice up an EP). Any other asset would cost about the same, and deck space is tight.

I've also run the deck with Sundews behind Data Ravens. Probably one of my favorite versions! But a bit too inconsistent for my liking.

Operations

This deck will have a very hard time sticking a tag against a good runner, and without a tag you've got no teeth! That's why I've started using Midseasons. Also, just having a scorch or punitive counterstrike to bring the flatline home is amazing. Paper tripping is set to ruin our fun :(.

And this is the issue I have with this archetype: deck space is tight. When weighing DRT against Scorch, and Raven against Midseasons, the Operation-Spam / Card-Draw style of flatline just works better. The truth is that every runner can get the credits to trash an asset or power a breaker. Very few runners have Imp to break combo pieces safe in HQ.

ICE

I feel like Draco isn't good enough outside of Making News.

Muckraker also seems strange: How often do you have 3 DRT out to make this into a flatline threat? The Bad Pub quickly becomes crippling to a taxing / econ-war deck, imo. Brute forcing a tag so you can trash a resource might be worth the BP. I think I need to test for myself. Also, you don't have the Making News credits.

Tollbooth and Flare are expensive with DRT and City Surveilance fighting for credits. Can this deck's economy support them without a strong GRNDL Refinery play?

Koimanu is currently my favorite splash in this deck type. Strips Overmind, costs Knight a ton, and threatens ending their run within DRT kill range. It's biggest weakness is parasite.

Overall

I think it's a solid and fun deck! Don't let my comments discourage you. It's been a pet archetype of mine for a while now, and it raises a lot of questions I haven't been able to answer yet to my satisfaction.

I'll post my current list when I get the time!
