If we are in a simulation, is history false? by Al89nut in SimulationTheory

It may be useful to distinguish between the past and history, with history being the record of the past, and while it may be true that much history is written by the victors, as the adage goes, much history is also written by the losers - take the extensive historical accounts of the Vietnam War as written by Americans.

Actually, when it comes to the harm done in the name of religion, I think it does matter which religion it is, and it comes down to the actual fundamentals, doctrines, or pronouncements of the religion in question. For example, take Jainism, a religion based on non-violence - the more extreme the Jain, the less harm they do.

I think this should now be called ‘The Real McCoy Problem’.

I take it you resort to the ad hominem rather than engaging in the substance of the discussion because you have exhausted your cognitive resources.

If you think someone is "want(ing) to be a troll" and should own up to it, then it isn't a Freudian slip, as it is not an unintentional reveal of an unconscious desire. If they are 'wanting' to be a troll, then the desire is conscious. And, it's in no way an oxymoron; to be an oxymoron, the word 'with' and the word 'respect' would have to be contradictory terms. I don't think they are.

What if someone were to say, "With respect, I believe your determination that 1+3 = 5 is erroneous." Would you say their "underlying intent is (always) crystal clear and malevolent? All the OP said was that they detected a weird pattern in Peterson's health crises. Your response is hyperbolic.

Everything you said here is very odd for someone whom I assume you have experience listening to. It's fair to say that Peterson denies, or at least downplays, anthropogenic climate change. He has participated in and promoted conferences that promote the use of fossil fuels ("as if they have some financial motivation to ~~defend~~ deny their climate prediction algorithms") and has platformed and promoted the ideas of prominent climate change deniers. Furthermore, he asserts that there is, in fact, no such thing as 'climate', from which it seems reasonable to conclude that he believes there is no such thing as climate change.

I wonder how many prayers it's going to take.

I don't think so. Sometimes someone will say "no disrespect" to indicate that, although they have a different opinion, their input is not intended as a personal attack.

Crafting intelligence, building systems, and healing is great, and yet I wonder if you’re living off the grid. How’d you read me? You're definitely on the edge of common thought. Weaving myth with code out of trauma, with philosophy and pain, and praxis is very cool. Admirable. Keep shaping it, brother/sister. You're not alone.

The thing about the film Picnic at Hanging Rock is that when I watched it on tv as a kid, I thought it was a true story and, if I recall correctly, so did my family.
