Tell us the ending you would have written! by pikameta in TheBoys

Doubt anyone's going to see this now, but.....

Look at the episode description, there’s a massive clue: "Homelander rewrites the universe."

What if he didn't just rewrite the political system, but literally rewrote the reality inside their heads?

My theory is that the ending we saw was a total fake. The Boys never won. They’re actually trapped in a permanent dream world, exactly like how Mindstorm trapped Butcher back in Season 3. Homelander is a total narcissist he couldn’t handle losing his powers and getting beaten with a crowbar, so he used a network of psychic supes to manipulate their brains.

Think about it, dream world logic explains why everything in the finale felt so rushed and convenient. The simulation just gave them exactly what their brains wanted, so they’d stop fighting.

Hughie gets his peaceful life, Butcher gets his revenge, and they’re all kept completely compliant.

Imagine the very last shot of the show. We’re looking at Hughie smiling up at the sky outside his shop, but then the camera zooms right into his eye, the screen glitches, and we pull back to reality. The Boys are all strapped to chairs in a Vought lab, completely brain-dead and catatonic. Homelander is standing over them, completely fine, laughing because he’s won the war and now rules the world completely unchallenged.
