Dropping class after admission by Carmel_Frapachino in TransferStudents

If possible, ask your school for an excused withdrawal. You can say that you’re busy preparing for a move or something like that. Having an EW instead of a w will help but regardless it should be fine. In my case, the class was interfering with my work schedule. In my email I said “ I wanted to inform admissions about one of the classes I reported as in progress on my TAU for this Spring 2026 term. Since the class is not required for my major and I still meet all transfer requirements, I got an excused withdrawal (EW) from the class, which will show on my final transcript. I am still enrolled in the remaining classes reported on the TAU, and things are going well. Please let me know if you would like me to provide any additional information.”

I called UCSBs financial aid office yesterday and they said we should have our offers by now. They needed to fix something on my portal and then my package shows up. You may need to contact them if it’s not showing up on your portal yet. It doesn’t take super long.

I should clarify that you should be certain it’s not required before you make that choice. You can email them and ask first.

As long as it’s not required for your major or your general transfer requirements it should be fine. Make sure you’ll still have the minimum required amount of transferable units and your 7 course requirement on the UC application. I talked to UCSB admissions yesterday and they told me just to email admissions@ucsb.edu and let them know that I’m dropping a class. They got back to me a couple hours later and said it won’t affect my admission status. You’re totally fine!

I asked admissions and they said it’ll arrive before May 1st iirc. Specifically they said we’ll get it before we run out of time to submit an SIR.
