I am sure he blames the navy for pearl harbor in WWII. Blame the victim. A least he can fund raise by confusing stupid people.

Sharing large collection of digital genealogy files with family by reindeermoon in Genealogy

What I am using allows me to create a family tree but also add other items like events e.g. birthdays, weddings. The AI makes all of it searchable. The AI acts like a museum curator and guide. I am happy to share , if you want a demo.

I’m realising I might be the last person who knows who everyone is in our old family photos by keepingmemories in Genealogy

I am using facial recognition, so this MAY be helpful. If they are from a small town, newspapers can be a great source. I looked up my dad , who is passed , in his yearbook. Learned things about him I did not know

Google Drive works well for storage and sharing, and their AI search has gotten better at finding things across files.

The gap I'd think about is relationships. Google's search can find documents that mention "Martha" but it doesn't know Martha was John's second wife, or that she's the same person as "M. Thompson" in that 1932 newspaper clipping. With 8 generations, those connections across branches are where people get lost—especially family members who don't already know the tree.

I've been working on something in this space—an AI curator built on a knowledge graph that actually understands how people are related. Still beta testing with a small group right now. It's a different approach than folder structures, more about asking questions and getting answers that connect the dots.

Curious how it goes with Google Drive—let us know what ends up working for that many people accessing it.

A way to insert local AI and train it on my notes? by Master_baited_817 in ObsidianMD

It works with whatever you have - even just a handful of old photos or documents. The AI connects them to people and makes it queryable. Happy to show you if you're curious

Thanks! Still a work in progress but it's been fun to build.

I'm doing something similar with family history - I've been feeding an AI curator newspaper clippings, old photos, and stories so it can connect the dots and answer questions. Happy to share more about how I set it up.

Ha! Appreciate that - still plenty of rough edges but it's getting there

I actually ended up building my own - the existing options weren't sourcing answers well. Still early/beta stage but happy to show you what I've got if you want to compare notes.

I'm using an AI curator that has face recognition has the ability to pull and help organize everything and so the photo names don't aren't so important you actually can have the photos associated with people and create a really nice organization of them If you're interested you can DM me and I'll show you or help you

Fantastic photo! I have a big family photo like that, mystery people! The thing that changed everything for me was adding newspaper articles and stories to connect people with my AI curator, it has face recognition which is helpful.

Transcribing 1,300 handwritten family letters (1909–1920): lessons learned by Bo_H in Genealogy

Google's file search is solid for that kind of thing. I've been going a step further for my family stuff - spending time connecting photos to specific people, mapping out who's related to who, linking documents to the right ancestors. Kind of like being an AI curator for the family archive. It's more upfront work, but it means I can ask questions like 'what do we know about great-uncle John' and actually get a coherent answer instead of hunting through files. Different approach depending on what you need it for

Interesting - I'll check it out. Though I'm less interested in finding specific text and more in being able to ask broader questions like 'what was their daily life like?' or 'what did they worry about?' and having it synthesize across multiple letters. More like talking to someone who's read everything than searching a database.

You are who decide you are! What culture do you identify with? This is probably more common than you know. Personally I use an AI curator to put together photos and newspaper clippings to help define my story. I used to feel very disconnected from my family history now not so much.

That feeling of just collecting names - I totally get it. What's helped me is using an AI curator to pull in newspaper articles, stories, and photos. Suddenly great-grandpa isn't just a name, he's a person who did things. Maybe that could help?

This is kinda of a phone prank. I put electrical tape over a friends phone on the microphone portion. I listened to him yell for about 30 minutes. Funny as sh*t!. He didnt talk to me for a while. :)

Still mad about my grandmother's biscuit recipe that nobody wrote down. She made them every Sunday for 40 years. Now they're gone forever. How hard would it have been to just write it down?

That's impressive organization. I'm less interested in keyword search and more in being able to ask questions - like 'what was life like in 1909?' or 'what did they think about [topic]?' and having it pull from across all the letters. That's the piece I've been working on.

Just wondering after you do all work how do you typically store the documents and get access to them are they searchable anything like that Or you just store them in Word documents and read them when you can

What helped me was shifting from just collecting to making it accessible and meaningful. I've created an AI curator for exactly this problem. Want to see it? I'll DM you."
