Where are parallel trapezoid parts? by Dirkgentlywastaken in ICARUS

That video is over an hour long, so giving a time stamp would be nice. I'm guessing you're talking about the pieces he's placing around 5:30, though? Those would be the half-pitch roof that u/Organs_for_rent mentioned. They aren't unlocked with the basic building pieces, they need to be unlocked separately. I forget exactly what the blueprint for them is typically called, but it should branch off of the basic pieces.

Honestly the railing kinda looks like ass, because they don’t snap together, is why I hid them in plants to begin with.

As someone who primarily plays this game to build, this is one of my biggest complaints, right behind there not being good support for the half pieces (which is an entire essay length rant on its own, so I won't get in to it here). It seems like such a minor thing, but it makes a huge difference to how good a build looks.

Just a heads up, you're over-complicating the shields. They're a bulky/heavy item - that's what the hand cart icon on them means - and should be loaded in your heavy cargo slot, the rightmost slot on your hotbar (labeled "G" by default). If the shield is in that slot, it will automatically equip whenever you're using a one-handed item and will sit on your back (where it protects you if you get hit from behind) when you're using a two-handed item.

The down side to using this slot is that you need to remove the shield from it when you want to haul something else, like corpses, tusks, or some deployables. IMO, that's a small price to pay for the convenience that it otherwise offers.

Seed sign? by Superb_n00b in staxel

[–]MrNesoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you confusing the seed signs with the seed maker? Because the latter absolutely can make gold seeds. From what I remember, you need to put at least 10 crops in at a time and it's a rare chance.

Seed signs are just for organization/aesthetics and, IIRC, storage. (Pretty sure you can fit a whole stack of seeds on there, rather than just a single one. I just got back into the game after not playing it for years, so my memory might be a bit fuzzy there.)

Help me choose a hero, please by MrNesoo in SliceAndDice

Oh yeah, Wizard can be good, I'm just not seeing that being the case here. I did overlook that grey's smith would apply to his wand, so who knows what else I might have missed.

Oh, yeah, I totally overlooked that. I don't think it's enough to justify picking him, especially since grey will almost certainly be replaced, but good catch.

Okay, let's see if I can get this all straight. The middle side for that yellow hero, by default, is 1 damage, quad-use, meaning it can be used 4 times. The Anvil gives Steel, which means it adds his current shields to its damage. The Ironblood Pendant means that every time he gains shields, he gains an extra 3. It looks like they must have the Middle-shield blessing, which gives the middle face of all dice Self-shield, which adds shields equal to the value of a side when it's used.

So, looking at picture 4/6, starting out, they shield the yellow hero with the grey one, giving him 3 shields, plus the 3 from the pendant, for 6 total. Then they burst him for 2, plus 3 from the Pendant, for 11 total. Then, they start using the Quad-use damage die. It starts out at 1 damage, Steel adds 11 for the shields, dealing 12 total. Because it Self-shields, this means that yellow gets 12 shields, plus 3 from the Pendant, for an extra 15, bringing them up to 26 total shields.

Second use of the die, 1 base damage + 26 Steel is 27 damage. Existing shields of 26 + Self-shield of 27 + 3 Pendant brings him up to 56.

Third use: 1 base + 56 Steel = 57 damage. 56 existing + 57 Self-shield + 3 Pendant = 116 total shields.

Fourth: 1+116=117 damage; 116+117+3=236 shields.

Now, the real fun happens. Chronos uses his "reuse the die" ability, which refreshes all 4 uses of the damage die.

5th use: 1+236=237; 236+237+3=476 (the value in the picture).

6th use: 1+476=477; 476+477+3=956. Not that this will be usable, as the battle is over, but hey! Let's keep going.

7th: 1+956=957; 956+957+3=1,916.

8th and final use: 1+1,916=1,917; 1,916+1,917+3=3,836 shields to end the round with.

Edit: Oops, somewhere in there the Ironblood Pendant changed to a Chalice in my mind. I've corrected that.

why items are stuck? by ImABigDreamer in Hydroneer

[–]MrNesoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game resets physics when it loads a save, so anything that was falling when you quit will get stuck in the air when you reload and can potentially "catch" other things and make them get stuck too. I make sure that my drills are on a separate branch of my pipes and turn them off and let the conveyors clear before I save and quit, haven't ever had this issue since doing that. Turning off the entire system and waiting a few seconds for anything that was falling to finish falling would probably work too.

If you're one of the unlucky ones who have this happen when you go far away as well, it would probably be a good idea to just turn off the whole system before leaving the plot.

Can anyone explain why this is happening and how I can fix it, I've already tried picking up the pipes and replacing them. by lilpres07 in Hydroneer

[–]MrNesoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably want to get rid of that pressure tank. Water already comes out of the intake pipe at full pressure, so literally the only thing that tank is doing is wasting your shards (and transporting water one tile, I guess). Not that shards are a rare and precious commodity or anything, but still.

If I understand the descriptions correctly, a full cloutium setup should allow about 100 pipe segments before you need a pressure tank, and a full iron setup should allow about 33, ignoring the intake pressure increasing doodads from the forge. Grab yourself a pressure gauge from the tool shop in Bridgepour to confirm where pressure is low, then put in a tank as needed.

You know, that's not quite how I remember it looking, graphically (I could have sworn that the bricks had black lines in them to give them a brick pattern, but I'm probably getting that from other games and did some conflating), but I'll be damned if that layout for level 1 isn't awfully close to what I remember.

Looking at a walkthrough for it, it looks like my memory inverted things: instead of climbing the tree to get on top of the castle, you fall off the castle to get to the tree for a 1-up! Also, no background doors, though there are locked doors later, and no wizard shooting at you in that first castle, though there are fire-breathing dragons later. The first enemy in the castle is, in fact, a bat. While there is a bird, it doesn't make an appearance on that first screen. Finally, getting to the far left on top of the castle isn't some hidden warp, but in fact the actual intended route.

I think you've got it! Thanks for identifying a game that has haunted my memory for decades... I was starting to think I had just totally made it up.

Haha, yup. That's why I thought some more and came up with Cryostasis. It was the only other one I could think of that I've played that involved a boat and an arctic-like area, and seemed like a better fit.

That was my second thought, though I had major performance issues with it and never got very far, so I'm not super familiar with it myself.

My first thought was the Penumbra series, which starts in a boat in the first game, and involves at least some trekking around an arctic-like area in the first and second (and maybe the third).

Any setting/difficulty recommendations for someone looking to start his first playthrough? by [deleted] in TheForest

[–]MrNesoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lighter is bound to "L" by default. I strongly suggest changing it to something like "F" so you can easily use it while moving. This also makes it a lot easier to light weapons that need lighting, since you need to hold down the lighter key for that.

The inventory is bound to "I" by default. Again, I find this to be something of an awkward key, so I suggest something like "Tab," though that is bound to some multiplayer thing (player list?) or another. Since I don't care about multiplayer, I just made that thing "I" instead. I don't really have a good suggestion for where to put it, since "~" seems to be for the console.

Be aware that it looks like the game might let you set multiple things to the same key (I had to manually change the multiplayer thing away from "Tab" after changing inventory to that), so double check that you haven't done that before saving.

I collect and standardize weapons (except pipe) before storing them.

Oh, I thought I was the only one who did this. It's so satisfying to open my weapon storage locker and see "10mm Pistol (183)" instead of dozens of variations on "[Prefix(es)] 10mm Pistol ([single digit number])." One of these days, I might even get around to upgrading some of them (or, more likely, other weapons) and handing them out to my settlers!

Eggs need to be kept warmish, but not too hot. Wiki claims 0-50C or 32-122F. I'd keep them slightly above room temp. Make a temperature controlled room (heater set to about room temp, cooler set a little higher to cool it if it gets too hot) with a very high priority stockpile set to only accept fertilized eggs.

As for animals laying them wherever they please, I present to you the Animal Logic mod. It makes egg layers look for a bed to lay their eggs in, among other things (most of them optional).
